UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

I doubt Prisma Illya Season 2 onwards would get a release. If I'm correct, AL didn't want to risk this one due to potential BBFC cuts required.

In some ways, it makes me wonder why they bothered with Season 1 in the first place.
Well they probably wanted Blood Lad on its own, but Fate/Kaleid got bundled with it.

Ah don't get me wrong, I'm not saying AL should cut all CEs, but if you don't have enough material and only go for a box and a folded up poster then its really not worth the money tbh.

Ehhh I don't buy it since it's still available for legal viewing in the UK, but if they simply don't want to release it then fine.

But also like I said moar Black Butler and Lupin would would be appreciated :p

Prisma Illya was only S1, Black Butler was only S3 and Lupin was both seasons. (So only 4 and 5).
FMP IV I do wonder where it is as its been out in US since March or April.
FMP was out extremely early in the US and CE only, which is oop. The AL release will more than likely be q4 2019 - q1 2020 which would be in the more normal timeframe for a release

I wish they'd put more focus on the stuff they licensed years ago like Dragons Dentist and Plastic Memories, It shouldn't take this long.
This is my biggest problem with them.

"We're still waiting on materials."

Why? Why aren't you aggressively chasing them up on that? PlaMem was licensed like, five years ago, and you're still waiting on them giving you the video materials? How long left till you no longer have the license? At what point does that become some sort of breach of contract?

I want to watch that show, and I want to support a UK release of it, but it's been so long that I'd almost rather they just cut their losses and announce as such, so I could safely import from Australia.

I very much doubt we'll see any more Black butler from AL, unless they got the license directly from Japan, the curse of Funi again, as for the CE debate, not getting involved, people know my opinion, so don't need to repeat,
Waiting for materials seem to be the go to excuse for AL nowadays, Twin Star suffered from that one, seems it still is, as we probably will never get any word as to why it's slipped to October/November to be completed.
The question does remain, how long is too long to wait or abandon and import, for me, no more than a year, I got sick of waiting for Durarara x2 part 2 onwards, so I just imported from Australia as it came out. I'm beginning to tire of the constant silence from AL of titles they seem to have forgotten or have little love for, so why not just let somebody else release them, "no can't do that, we have pretty boxes and books in the pipeline" is probably the reasoning, but again how long before the ever critical UK anime fandom tires of them and just buys from somebody else, oddly enough, that was the advice somebody on here gave me, when I got annoyed with Andrew about the 6 month gaps, he seemed to find quite acceptable.

I very much respect the mission statement of AL, it just seems to suffer for actually delivering it. A company wanting to do current titles, classics, overlooked gems and stuff of historical importance sounds great. Likewise branching out into soundtracks, festivals and other events. But the phrase "eyes bigger than their belly" comes to mind given these exciting plans sadly continuously feel like more than they can handle.

I've already said as much but for me what's currently irking me is the treatment of Gundam in an anniversary year. Watching the French side of the company going in heavily whilst for us it's just titles that had already been delayed previously.

I just want to get out of this endless loop of me asking about High School Fleet, Plastic Memories and Sunshine Season 2

HSF isn't released in the US so thats fine

But the other two I've avoided importing because its an Anime Limited title with a good chance of a CE

Would be brutal if neither got a CE, esp Plastic Memories as its likely the only AOA title I would have imported over the last 2 years (Now OOP)

TBH I'd imagine this year has been a bit of a downer for AL as their Winter Sale was a bit of a mess and I'd imagine Perfect Blue and Bebop didn't get the preorders they wanted (Hope I'm wrong)

What’s currently disheartened me is them announcing titles at the last possible moment it’s not right to not know what is getting released in September 3 weeks before September. Silver Spoon could be out then but no clue. And how far behind they are now on the Q2 list. The Gundam effort is very too little too late tbh. They are now so far behind Nozomi. No actual information about what makes the CEs different from the boxes and oh look we get key rings when America gets Gundam on the box and a NT film showing and 0080 on BD.

Technically US has had 2 NT showings. One as a limited national screening and a 4D version at one of the summer cons along with a 4D version of the 00 movie (which showed at a US con when it originally released).

France also got NT at a con, which arguably is akin to us getting Origin at MCM/Thunderbolt at SLA.

But then they were partly involved with Tomino/G-Reco premiere in France. Compare to us getting a video message from him...which was glitched and thus we never even saw it.

I would rather they did just say Gundam didn’t do well here. Rather than there new formula which seems to be low print runs “oh look they sell out” as I am confused why CCA is OOP prior to Zeta pt2 And ZZ. As even as how crap ZZ is I would say you need to at least know the plot prior to cca.

Perhaps it's because a while back many people skipped Zeta and ZZ to jump straight into Char's Counterattack without realising those two shows filled the gap in the storyline.

Honestly I'm happy to have Gundam appearing at least once every month or two otherwise it'll be oversaturating and hard to pickup.

But why are we skipping all the UC OVAs no 0080, 0083, 08th,UC Victory F91. Thats just the UC timeline we skipped for Wing and "00" and then we skipped IBO. I love love Gundam but AL having release so densly is there own fault. Look at the gaps the US now have as they are basically waiting for the blu ray license of stuff like 0080 and next year X. And SEED I cant see us getting SEED and as the original dub is locked behind the UCE i will have to get that. I love Gundam but AL themselves have ****** it up. The France deal I see from a business point so why is it binned now?

My current belief is if it sub only we won't get it. Sorry Turn A. And maybe if needs BBFC in (As the 50 ep shows) We aint getting it. Prove me wrong AL release Turn A.

Outside of AUKN, UK anime fans are cheap. Half a season of Gundam usually costs between £40 and £60 if you don’t get the Early Bird. A movie is considerably cheaper even without the Early bird.
Thats possibly true but I also think the amazon getting the lions share of copies is probable too as they take ages after AL to sell out.

To be honest, Turn A made no sense to me at the time they originally announced it. It's not a Kamen Rider Decade-style tour of the franchise thus far but it does kinda require a bit more experience with Gundam to click. I mean its original purpose was to bookend Gundam after 20 years.

As for OVAs- the only one I hold as a priority is 0080 because in 3 hours I think it sells Gundam very strongly. Most of the UC sidestories are superfluous in my opinion.
