UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Well, we know Cowboy Bebop: The Movie is probably beyond AL's reach, for a while at least. According to Arrow Video freelancer Michael B, Sony UK just won't sub-licence films out to other distributors. No idea why, they just categorically will not do it.

So until the rights revert back to Bandai or Sony UK changes it's policy, that probably won't be available to them.

Ah so I take it a deluxe set of the series wouldn't be something Anime Limited would want to take on if it's missing the movie? Makes sense. For some reason I always thought that the implication was that it would just be a complete collection of the series in fancy packing and maybe physical extra's like an art book (or damn the OST, although I assume that would also be a nightmare to get a hold of, and I mean...which ost? :p)

I believe Andrew said that if they were to do one, they'd want the OST and/or the film. They probably can't get the film, so it's a question of whether they can or can't get the soundtrack.

I'd assume Lantis has the rights to the soundtrack. Andrew clearly has connections at Bandai, so maybe he could convince them to sell him the rights, but I don't know whether they have to go through and re-clear every single track for the UK or something ridiculously labour intensive.

Sounds good. No rush, they can take their time. They've already got Bebop out there so its best to concentrate all that energy on a property they have yet to get out but it'd be nice to revisit the series down the line for both us and the Team at AL for that matter, I'm sure it's a fun property to work on! (And stressful!) More Bebop is always a great thing! :)

This is old but know I never noticed. Aniplex+ had a bonus including illustrations and autographs by the main staff for buying all the Blu-rays etc. The box looks familiar :p

Yep! That's what we modelled it on - as a golden rule, doing something unique for KLK is really really tough, so I improvised and found a smart box approved in Japan for another product. It's also what allowed us to get it cleared in the end and it really looks lovely in the end :).

The joys of design vs approval...! Will add the topic to a podcast in future :).

Bebop is 100% on my list to revisit as a Collector's Edition. What I'd love to do now we have Terror in Resonance on the horizon is go back and create a "Shinichiro Watanabe Collection" where we create something special for all his TV series. Loads of work involved there and clearances across parties though but it could be very very cool...

Best,

Andrew

Andrew, forgive me if this is a stupid question, but do you guys have the rights to Tokyo Ghoul √A? There seems to be some debate as to whether you do or not...

We do and are releasing it next year in Q1 all going well :)!

Watanabe was co-director on Macross Plus...is that still with Manga?...Have I just opened the 'Macross rights' can of worms?

Don't crush my dreams

Not least because I think my favourite Watanabe work is actually his Baby Blue short in Genius Party (that also has a short from Kawamori, go figure), so I'd hate to see that excluded from a 'Watanabe Collection' - it's a quarter of an hour of perfection.

Macross Plus I think is outside the grasp of HG at least, so someone, some time might possibly have a shot at it. Italy got a BD at the back end of 2013. Don't think I've read anything about HG throwing its weight around on that one.

That being said, the Japanese release is pretty much flawless, and the international version on the discs includes the English dub.....:thumb:

I've maybe misunderstood this, would you mean all of the TV shows in one big fancy box or a range where each TV show gets a fancy release but is sold separately? It'd be very impressive if you managed the former but still quite nifty if it was the latter.

Still, I have to admit that I'd be wary of it if it gets in the way of other releases. I still want to see those Nichijou, Shirobako and Natsume Yujin Cho Ultimate Editions (not to mention things you might actually be doing).
