UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Baccano looks superb, and really happy to see we're getting a booklet too.

This might be the first show I remove the OCard for as I want to display that artwork in all its glory. Taking the US artwork but getting rid of the border so we can have the full art, lovely. Also nice that we get the artwork from the amarays of the Limited edition on there too.

I owned the US LE, but tbh, this is looking far nicer than that set. Great stuff.

I like that AL are releasing Baccano but I dislike the spine on the packaging - the standard AL spine layout is becoming a bit boring imo, same format all the time (bar a couple releases). I much prefer the plain-looking spines (rather than all the blue/red and anime limited branding) that we see from US releases. Still, thanks AL for bringing over this series - I lool forward to having it as part of my collection

Is Aniplex the reason Aldonah and Durarara x2 not coming till 2016 I expect so as the same with UBW though a MVM release

Aldnoah was a late acquisition, so it's probably more a case of AL having it's hands full. However, when it was first announced they said they would have 2 releases of 12 episodes each, but later comments from Andrew seem unsure about the release strategy. So I'm guessing something caused their original plans to fall through, which might explain the wait.

Durarara!!x2 doesn't finish airing until March 2016, so that's probably why there's a long lagtime on that.

Yeah I expect they will change the amount of eps on AZ than aniplex but I though they were realising the x2 in separate releases so one release for the first cour and another for the second and one for the third

I think the desire for 2 parts of 12 episodes is probably why AL are waiting with Aldnoah, but I don't know.

I heard a rumour that x2 was going for 6 parts, 2 per arc, but AL said they didn't know and they've not said anything since, so I think that was just made up. As long as we get the OVA(s) and the prices aren't too high, I'd be fine with 6 parts.

To be honest, Andrew & co. might as well delay their release so that Aniplex can allow them to release the series in complete season sets (resulting in 2 sets for Aldnoah.Zero and 3 sets for Durarara!! x2). I'm sure Aniplex will be fine with that if Andrew wants to release them in early 2016 (by that window Aniplex will have already been working on the other seasons, sure we'll be a season behind but it'll make up with more episodes in one set).

Yeah that does sound probably is the case

As I have said before, any more than 2 parts would probably kill Aldnoah.Zero stone dead, it looks nice and it's enjoyable dumb fun, but I doubt anybody would be willing to pay for 4 parts of it.

Although, all they have to do is give people a lossless dub and they'll have already beaten AoA's release, so maybe they'll do well from that.

Persona 4 Golden got a pretty bad critical reception, so I can't imagine anyone is leaping to pick it up. I imagine the Persona 3 movies are probably a more realistic bet at this point.

Well if minimum print run is 1000 copies, but it will realistically only sell say - 250 copies - why would a company go ahead and release something they know they'd lose money on?

Jay & Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie was limited to 500 copies, so maybe MVM can't, but other distributors can do print runs lower than 500...

Durarara!!'s LE was limited to 3000 copies, it's been out 18 months, has been insanely cheap for the past 3, doesn't really have to compete with the US release (it's an AoA release so was both expensive and limited) and is now the best release for English-speakers in the world. That still hasn't sold 3000 copies.

I think 1000 is a lot more copies than some of us realise...
