UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Since you guys are tying up tighter and tighter with Viewster, could you please tell them to setup a sub-based ad-free version of their PC service FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

Well, on the basis that their site is currently undergoing major upgrades, and they've suggested something big and non-content related is coming, maybe the wait won't be that long...

Uh-oh! Now you have me excited.

Full disclosure, the comment they made was incredibly ambiguous and it's the videos that have gone down, rather than the actual pages of the site, so I'm wondering if it's actually them adding HD capability in time for the summer simulcast season.

Viewster is a wonderful service, and seems a great partner for AL.
There's not many opportunities for companies to have patrons willing to spend money on a service so willingly. I've let my Crunchyroll lapse as the content is quite poor in the UK and prefer Viewster now. They need to get apps on other devices though, it's essentially the reason I bought a Fire TV as it's one of the very few services to have an app for them.

The 17th is a horrible (great) date!
Knights of Sidonia, Sword Art Online, A Lull In the Sea, and now 009Re:Cyborg.

I ended up cancelling A Lull In the Sea though. Been watching on Crunchyroll due to physical delay and whilst I love the world and think it's gorgeous, the romance focus has really made me dislike the show. That's a post for another thread though.

Can't remember if this has been asked before, but Escaflowne, is there any dependence on what Funi are doing with it, or are you getting the assets from Sunrise and doing your own thing?

I was going to echo that question on Full Metal Panic too re. existing US editions - not that there's anything wrong in basing a UK edition on the US edition, but I'm just interested in terms of an industry-to-consumer perspective, if the eventual release date depends more on 'this is how long it takes to prepare the assets ourselves' vs. 'we're waiting to see what America does first, because we have to base what we do on what they've put together'.

It's something I've always wondered about because obviously most UK discs are essentially ports of US/Australian ones - is it simply a question of that except in rare cases, the UK has to wait because it's cheaper to just use what America and the US are doing?

I'm trying to think of recent examples where the UK edition came out before the US edition.

Re: Escaflowne

I was going to leave this for Andrew to answer, but they said during the last podcast that they had hired Justin Sevakis to help on the project, because it was the first time the director's cuts would be made available in the English-speaking world, and as a result it was a bit of a nightmare to try and work out which English materials they could re-use and which they'd have to recommission. They described Justin as a specialist on the matter, and I believe he also did the reissued Durarara!! discs for them (or at least I seem to remember him saying that on one of the ANN podcasts he did).

The AL team made it sound like they hadn't even realised the director's cuts existed until they checked it and realised the English materials didn't match up, So I got the impression they're trying to be as careful as possible, because they don't want to drop the ball.

Cowboy Bebop was another one where Funi were involved and they came out here first. Hoping for the same here! :D

^^ Cheers Buzz, interesting stuff.

I hate to say this but I've just tried to get my Kill la Kill pt3 disc out and the digi pack and book are stuck inside the box exactly like the MCM stock despite the fact my copy came from Amazon.

I can literally hold it open side downwards and the contents show no sign of budging.

Should we expect an expansion of the MCM replacement scheme?

Make sure the spine of the artbook is at the bottom of the digipack, it gets stuck if facing the top for some reason.

I was beaten to it, but as sniper_samurai said make sure you have it positioned like so:

My new replacement copy does exactly the same. If I have the spine facing the top (Green side of the booklet facing out) then it does indeed get stuck.

No good i'm afraid, I already had the spine downwards just with the book and digipack in reverse positions. Switching them round has not helped.
