UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

I'm personally hoping for a surprise EB or two to feature alongside one or two surprise announcements. Would be sweet.

Chalk me up as another who'd prefer to know the contents of the mystery box before buying. £40 is a not-insignificant amount of money at this time of year, and personally, selling stuff I already have is a bit of a hassle. I still have my extra copy of HAL from last year's box. I honestly wouldn't have bought last year's if I didn't know the content ahead of time.

That said, the idea of a mystery box is still a good one in principle (though it seems mostly aimed at those who don't already own a lot of sets), so I'm not expecting AL to just turn around and go "welp, here's what's in it!", but let's just say I certainly wouldn't mind if that info somehow found its way out there. :p

Did I hear loot boxes?
1.0

Last year's mystery box was great for me as I only had 1 out of the 5 titles. This year I've been buying a lot more AL CEs so the chances of me having most of the 7 titles is a lot higher.

This is my issue. Last year the titles I didn't have were the films which I usually skip buying anyway. There's been maybe a handful of AL titles I haven't picked up from this years releases.

Edit: I'll get it anyway, worth the risk since it'll be a crimbo present anyways :D

Having a look at older CEs which I haven't acquired, these are the ones I have yet to get:
  • 009 Re:Cyborg
  • ALDNOAH.ZERO [Season 2]
  • Assassination Classroom [Season 1]
  • Attack on Titan: Junior High
  • Black Butler: Book of Circus
  • Charlotte [Parts 1 & 2]
  • Claymore
  • Durarara!!x2 Arc 1: Shou
  • Durarara!!x2 Arc 2: Ten
  • Expelled From Paradise [This one was in last year's bundle]
  • Fullmetal Alchemist [Parts 1 & 2]
  • A Letter to Momo
  • Lord Marksman and Vanadis
  • Martian Successor Nadesico
  • Noein ~to your other self~
  • Noragami Aragoto
  • Ping Pong the Animation
  • Selector Infected Wixoss
A fair amount were released this year so I'll have to rule them out. No plans for Steelcase releases like Project Itoh also.

Bold - Titles I would like to see appear in the Box.

Thankfully this year I did some extra hours at work the last two months, so I have a bit of extra spending money for myself rather than it all go to presents for my ever increasing list of relatives and friends. That means this year I can actually take part in this deal! (I remember posting last year that I was annoyed it was happening so close to Christmas as I didn't have any spare cash, not that a 12 Days of Christmas sale would happen any other time of the year, I just meant such good deals in general!)

Titles I'd like to see:
  • Aldnoah Zero season two
  • Samurai Flamenco Part 2
  • Terror in Resonance
  • A bunduru of Funimation UK titles
  • Tokyo marble chocolate
  • Your lie in April part 2
  • Any number of early bird specials and announcements

But that defeats the purpose of it being "a mystery" ;)

I'll add that we know that £40 isn't insignificant. But you need to weigh it up like this: 1 release on its own can cost around £40. We're offering 7 titles for that price! Heck, even if you own some already, you could just give them to a friend or similar. It's not often you can buy that many titles, brand-new, for that price. And if the catch (if you can call it that) is that you don't know what's inside, speaking as someone who is really money conscious, that's a gamble I'm willing to take.

We're not forcing anyone to buy it. It's just something unique and different to what we can normally offer :)
But there won't be any clues as to what's inside. So you'll have to take a chance and see if you like what's inside :)

So uh silly question but I'm just sending my email about the replacement Your Name disc, what info should I actually be including in it? :/ Like do you need my order number, my address and such or will you ask for all that closer to when they'll be getting sent out?

There will be more info on that once the new disks are availabe

My only issue is that I normally tend to purchase the shows I want the moment they become available (unless the price exceeds my interest), so during the last few years, only the pre-orders have been of use. I'm expecting something similar with the likes of Momotaro. Otherwise, unless the likes of FMA, Your Lie In April, Eden of the East or the Miss Hokusai Collector Ed. sets appear for a steal, I likely won't be biting on any existing stock.

On a related note, the copy of Outlaw Star I bought in Zavvi's Black Friday sale arrived... slightly dented, but tbh that's about what I had expected. Unlike packages with simpler or lighter designs, such as Hyouka, the damage isn't particularly visible on a shelf, so I consider £20 for a show I don't enjoy that much, but has nice (if slightly bruised) packaging and a great art book, more than worth it. Now let's see what they do with the Anthem of the Heart and Twin Peaks sets I also ordered. They're still using those slightly bubble-wrapped jiffy envelopes to send collector sets in, It boggles the mind.
