UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Sure will :). As before, anything after April isn't going to be in it though :).

I guess that's fair, a shame as all I was really hoping for was Psycho Pass 2 to turn up as I'm not really willing to pay the current asking price for it (not exactly a fan of the 2nd series) but need it as I have the movie ordered and can't be missing a part :( Oh well, perhaps something else may take my interest, I think Noein was about that time so I'll hope for that... Thanks for the answer.

It appears the Mai Mai Miracle situation is getting people more stressed out again.

The English dub was to be given to the backers a week before the Japanese Blu-ray Box was scheduled and there's been no sign.

Not going to lie, this is probably the weakest anime distributed kickstarter by far (worse than what Funimation has done with Escaflowne). Sure I understand the Japanese committee delaying this release to death, but two years and lack of backer updates isn't helping at all. Andrew you need to give the backers an update before MCM Comic Con because you've already lost a lot of people's respect plus any future ideas you had for kickstarter is now gone because of this (which is a shame because Patema Inverted was handled very well).

Heck I'm getting concerned that this film will get delayed once again, to a 2017 time frame.

I always look forward to this and bought a few things in the last 2 years, but I'm not sure there will be anything I want this year (unless there'going to be a pre-order offer). Usually pre-ordering anything I want now, and already got older releases.

Swinging in during my 42 day straight working bender here just to say sorry you feel that way about it. I would say though that saying it's worse than Escaflowne's Kickstarter may be a stretch (on the same level in a different way, perhaps).

Few points to consider:

Backer updates - You're completely right, there should have been more there but when you're sorting everything on top of the other work in the schedule (Your Name theatrical, a full film festival, regular releases etc) it can be missed especially when there's no news barring it's in the final mile there. That doesn't make it any better for fans nor does it need to necessarily have a great deal of understanding from fans given you've had to wait so long anyway - we totally get that.

Dubbed Video - It's on it's way - expect an update with it today for backers :). Not quite a week before literally but during the week before and when you factor shipping time etc for that product it'll still be possible to see it before anyone else.

Respect - If I've lost people's respect then fair enough - I can't do anymore than I have and if that isn't good enough for people then all I can do is keep on going doing what we're passionate about here :). It's been a painful enough project here as is and if that's another arrow into me on it, what exactly can I do?

Future Kickstarters - I have been very vocal about my feeling of not running another Kickstarter after this. We're a big enough company to take the risks now without leaning on Kickstarter as a platform by and large. Doesn't mean that won't change one day, but I think you're being hyperbolic and getting ahead of yourself here to even assume I even had any future ideas ;).

Timeframe - Still on target for 2016.

More in the update later ;)

Best,

Andrew

Personally I think it would be a shame if there weren't more Kickstarters - as I was hoping that might be an outlet to release shows / films that might be deemed too 'niche' to get a 'regular' release in the UK - basically, I'm mainly thinking the older / retro type stuff that Discotek puts out in the US. The general line of thinking is that these titles wouldn't sell enough copies to be worth it - but I guess via a Kickstarter, perhaps it'd add a certain 'if you want it, put your money where you mouth is' mentality that I think is sometimes lacking in getting anime fans to part with their money.

But that's just my thoughts.

The issue there is that you'll typically have to acquire the license before you can run the Kickstarter, at which point you've already taken a substantial risk from making the acquisition in the first place! At that point, the only real risk is surrounding the level of packaging and extras that would be feasible for the product, and Anime Limited can gauge interest in that via their own web store.

Ahh yes, good point. I wonder if there'd be some way to make it some kind of selection system then - ie. we have X amount of money to spend on a new license, you guys vote for what it is (out of these options) - but I suppose then you run into the problem of people only being into one who or another. I guess what I sort of have in mind is similar to what Vertical do with their solicitation for recommendations of manga to license - essentially some way to have a slight impact on what gets picked up beyond the super obvious 'of course that'd get licensed' titles.

According to email from @jaden550 FMA UE is delayed due to certificate production problems.
"productions problems" is a certainly unique way to phrase it...

They're taking a little longer to be printed than anticipated because we wanted to make sure all the details were accurate. We want them to ship with the product itself, so it's simply going to take a week or two longer to get them sent. That's literally all there is to it :)

@Jeremy Graves - Do you know how this will affect Zavvi costumers? Will we still be paying for it on/before the 31st and the set just ships a few weeks late or will they be given a new release date and have payment taken closer to that?

Been busy with Uni work so I haven't had time to check things on here.

Thank you for providing an update on the film. I apologise for acting like that, I didn't mean to make a bad impression so I'm very sorry. Honestly I do want to see more Anime Ltd kickstarters (as I said, the Patema Inverted one was excellent) so I hope it happens again in the future.

FMA UE are in for an unboxing sometime soon.

I can't wait to see the final resin case.

Ah, so Tokyo ESP may appear then (late March release) i'll be all over that as it's the only title I didn't pick up at launch before I began my current "do i really need these titles at launch" stance (since September) to allow for more saving!
