UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

With yourself releasing Perfect Blue on Blu-ray, I know you've showed further interest in releasing more films from the late Satoshi Kon when I've asked you about it in the past, but do you think that it's feasible/possible or a pipe dream? How did a film like Perfect Blue do for you so far sales wise? Did the CE sell out as fast as you expected and does there seem to be interest in the standard release? Finally, if you was to release, say Millennium Actress (probably my favorite animated film of all time) or even Tokyo Godfathers, how well would you think they'd sell aligned with your Perfect Blue release? Paprika has been available on Blu-ray for a long time, and has constantly been cheap. I wonder how well it's done, and if it was ever expected to end up that cheap. It was a 2007 release I guess :p Thanks in advance.

Not opposed to doing them and I am actively looking - as I'd like to think first to BD is only one of the selling points. If we can provide an attractive proposition in terms of packaging and content we'd look at any of the Satoshi Kon films. Millenium Actress is probably the biggest of the three main ones out there due to no BD being out though :).

Let's see what the next year brings :D.

I'm up for Millennium Actress :3

I was watching something (I'll try to find a link later) about Tokyo Godfathers only selling in the lower end of 3 digits at release, if that's not likely to put off a blu-ray release at a later date, I don't know what is.

Are you referring to this?

Never seen that before, wonder that the two titles were? hmm.

Is Kill la Kill box 2 actually coming out next Monday? Everywhere I look has the 16th, but you guys said the 2nd, was it delayed or is it still definitely on for the 2nd?

Isn't the UK DVD of Millenium Actress out of print right now? Paprika always seems to be a big seller on Amazon but imagine part of that is due to it being so cheap.

Do all the cowboy bebop complete collection blurays have poor chapter markers or am I just unlucky?

I waited for the complete edition because I thought the problem was supposed to be fixed on it but now I've got round to watching them disks 1 & 2 both only have 3 chapters per episode, not tried the other 2 yet.

It's hardly likely to be unlucky as that would mean your discs were especially not authored correctly...

What was fixed was simply the video glitches on the discs as the chapter marker point was raised much later. While it's annoying too it doesn't count really as a problem to be fixed as it doesn't critically impede your enjoyment so am sorry but that's the way the discs are and we were always very clear about what we were changing on the discs :).

Also worth mentioning is it's not a common issue for us all in all given as you know we tend to produce with correct chapters and it's super rare as an occurrence attributed to being a studio not accustomed to anime who we moved on from after that project.

If we go back and re-do the show again for an Ultimate or otherwise (which inevitably we will sometime) then I'll look to redress the chapters then :).

Thanks for the reply! I'm glad that you have an active interest in releasing them. I might be misunderstanding what you wrote so forgive me, but when you say that there's no BD out there for Millennium Actress, you mean there's no English friendly BD right? Because Millennium Actress was released on Blu-ray funnily enough exactly a year ago (Feb 21st 2014) in Japan, I know so because I own it (being a Satoshi Kon fan) but no subtitles are present on the release so no doubt I'm waiting for an English friendly release. I would love a release mimicking the Perfect Blue edition you released, but at the same time I think mimicking the Japanese release, as in just a white amaray with that lovely cover art would be perfect too! :)

Thanks Andrew. I'm not hugely bothered, I just (mis?)remember you saying on twitter it would be fixed in the complete release.

I'm used to it with some of the manga releases, I usually just slip a bit of paper in warning me. I did wonder why one of the episodes I was watching seemed so short.

I only brought it up in case it was a fixed issue and mine were faulty. I certainly don't expect you to replace every minor flaw as that'd be too much expenditure but if it was something you'd already been offering replacements for I would've considered as I'm so used to just hitting next to skip opening/closing.

Compared to a lot of UK anime releases it's still a well done, good quality release & bebop sure does have that special gorgeousness that only hand drawn anime has.

If you do get that ultimate release with the film I'll definitely be picking it up.

An update on the Mai Mai Miracle kickstarter here: Link. Not much new, just that things are moving along in regards to the dub and the art-book. The digital art-book will be the first of the digital goods with the wallpapers and translated pamphlet following.

E-mail update regarding Gurren Lagann Digipacks.

I'm writing to you today in reference to the Gurren Lagann Ultimate Edition replacement digipack that you requested after following the steps on our website.

We regret to inform you that we are no longer able to supply a replacement digipack. We are deeply sorry for this and genuinely feel very bad that we're not able to deliver on this as originally intended. We have fulfilled as many requests as we could for as long as possible but unfortunately we are now having to bring the replacement programme for Gurren Lagann Ultimate Edition to a close.

As we can't fulfil the digipack replacement anymore, we don't feel right about leaving you with nothing to show for your purchase of a luxury item in good faith.

To that end, while it's not the ideal solution you were looking for, there are two options available. If you would like one we are happy to send you a Gurren Lagann Standard Edition Blu-ray set (with an SRP of £59.99) so that you at least have an alternative to the digipack. (You can see how it looks HERE.)

Or if you prefer we can offer you £30 of store credit to our web shop, AllTheAnime.com
This will code would be valid for 2 months from when you receive it and can be used to purchase any Anime Limited DVD/Blu-ray release listed.

Please let us know which you would prefer. Once again we're deeply sorry for this and for a delay in a resolution to this. We hope this hasn't damaged your opinion of us as we take so much pride in all of our products. We value you and all of our customers and strive to do the best we possibly can no matter the circumstance.

They also sent this email:

Just a quick follow up to my previous email regarding Gurren Lagann. This closing of the Gurren Lagann replacement programme will not in any way hinder or impact our upcoming Durarara!! Blu-ray Collector's Edition disc replacement programme - should you be one of the people who purchased that set.

The issues in question on Durarara!! are completely different to Gurren Lagann. That being re-authoring and printing of discs rather than packaging.

(If you are one of the people who purchased Durarara!!, we will be publishing details about that replacement programme at our website, AllTheAnime.com, soon.)

Wow, that's quite generous of them to offer £30 as an apology. Understandably the digipak's would have been a limited print run for them, so they've probably exhausted them.

I did send them an email a fortnight ago as I noticed mine had become busted (third hub had fallen off). I finished my rewatch of the show back in November and went to watch again and noticed mine had the fault. Never received a response though.

Must of been quite a limited run, I put my request in about 10 days after the replacement programme started, though they perhaps prioritised those with smashed boxes rather than the loose digipaks.

Quite the generous offer indeed, with Bebop they offered a 25% store discount, though I guess now they have more products 25% could be quite a large sum :)

Hi Andrew / Jeremy, as we're only a week out from this, is the 2nd definitely a lock now?

Cheers.

Also got this email, but received my Gurren Lagann replacement digipack ages ago. Guess everybody who filled in the form back when the replacement program started received the email.

Off course i will not make use of the £30 offer, that only seems fair since at my end everything is OK

I too was actually confused for the email given I also managed to get a digipack replacement. Then again the spine part for the replacement was worse than the original version so I'll probably go for the £30 offer in the end (and get Royal Space Force once it pops up).

It's more as some were wanting others replaced so I suggested sending it out to the list back to a particular date so some people who got ones they were OK with fell into that pile :).

Basically just don't want anyone put out on it.

Thanks Andrew, guess was less work to filter that list :)

@NormanicGrav, interesting but i haven't noticed this myself. Will check again today, as i still have the original too. I can't throw anything away ... is this characteristic for a collector ?

Probably just me being picky but it does look weird if you get a closer look though.

Impressive customer service. I didn't bother replacing mine but it still means a lot to me that so much effort has been put into setting things right. When a company is taking problems seriously like this, even if you're not personally connected you can feel confident they're trying really hard not to make the same mistake again; it's hurting them too.

It means a lot more to me that the Anime Limited staff understand how fans feel instead of just telling people they're fans too, and expecting that to carry credibility on its own.
