UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Andrew, Would AL ever consider picking up Space Battleship Yamato 2199? Such a good show but no full western release
Isn't the licensing for it in a bit of a weird limbo?

I don't really know, I just recall the western release being handled under the name "Star Blazers" and the company releasing it going dark after volume 4.

That seems to be the case in America but I've no idea if this would be an issue for a UK release

Still not really sure what happened there. Before release it was intended to be dubbed, then it came out as sub-only. 4 volumes and then gone.

At least the JP release is English-friendly.

Cost is mad prohibitive though.

Not including the movies.

In the podcast they said the "secret project" had rumblings on the net. Can someone PM the speculated title? :)

Going through my release list of titles I'm interested in, I presume this means Yona of the Dawn, Claymore, Aldnoah Zero are all delayed until at least October.

I'm desperate to know the title too :)

True. I collected them as they came out so it didn't hurt quite so much.

Still less than what I paid for Macross, and that isn't even English-friendly!
Hah, I admire your enthusiasm!

I did the same thing, but seeing the figure as a lump sum still makes my stomach turn a bit. Maybe I can use them to retire on, since Brexit made my pension pot worthless.

Voyager Entertainment gave up because it didn't sell. But they're still going as they are the international right holder to Star Blazers.

I thought there was a news snippet from somewhere just a few weeks back where Yamato 2199 had apparently shown up on a release schedule somewhere? Didn't it get flagged on this very forum?

The following have received BBFC ratings:

Anime Limited
Blood Blockade Battlefront - 15 - Strong Bloody Violence
Your Lie in April: Part 1 - 12 - Moderate Violence and Discriminatory Term

Funimation UK
Assassination Classroom: Season 1 Part 2 - 15 - Strong Sex References

Mamoru Oshii films - Good chunk are already released. Andrew loved to. Never say never but not on his live-actions.

Full disclosure: I asked this! Correct me if I'm wrong, but other than Ghost in the Shell (+ Innocence) and Sky Crawlers are any of his actually still in print in the UK? Angel's Egg - never been released and neither have his two Urusei Yatsura films as far as I know (due to the aforementioned Rumiko Takahashi issues?). Patlabor trilogy is OOP and while I recall Andrew mentioning that he doesn't think he can top the previous DVD release, I still think that it's a crying shame that it's not readily available in the UK - and if not AL, who?

Just got an e-mail from Amazon -

Unfortunately, the release date for the item(s) listed below was changed by the supplier, and we need to provide you with a new estimated delivery date based on the new release date:

"Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam - Part 2 [Blu-ray]"
Estimated arrival date: January 30 2017

I'm hoping this is a provisional date?

These delays are ridiculous!

I would flip a table as well, if my laptop wasn't on it and if the table was mine instead of my family's. Oh man, these MSG delays are getting on my nerves. Not least because the delays are due to making them French friendly which benefits, not the UK fans but, AL as a company. So, really, the wait is for nothing lol.

See this is a classic situation of we can't win - release now now now in the UK - we piss the French Gundam fans off (who believe it or not are as vocal as the UK ones) as re-authoring costs a lot of money as in addition to paying to create two masters (one accessed from the USA, one made in France) - we also then have to pay extra mastering fees per disc.

What this amounts to is between £5,000 and £10,000 of extra work - just to release Zeta sooner in the UK. I'm sorry I have no magic solution to make it all better on Zeta but it's simply not practical.

That said, we're also working on a huge tranche of Gundam at once now - so like I say, you'll see a good chunk more at once and again I feel your pain on it too as unsurprisingly I'd love to get it out asap too :).

AP
PS - Asides from that - you make it sound like French fans don't benefit from it, it's all Anime Ltd who benefits ;). Sadly we have to manage two countries worth of anime fans at once, which is a very tough balancing act often.

I'm more annoyed by the Reconguista in G delay myself. It now doesn't even have release date parity despite AL licensing it so far in advance of Rightstuf.
