UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Not interested in anything else, missed out on the Perfect Blue CE but will skip the Standard release. I always go for the CE/LE or nothing. So KLK part 2 and 3 and Baccano are the only definite buys for me.

As a note, though the Perfect Blue Collector's is now out of print, you can still find remaining stock lurking about. I've noticed that Zavvi currently have stock of it as an example: http://www.zavvi.com/blu-ray/perfect-bl ... 97987.html

Hope that helps.

Thanks, I greatly appreciate that. Unfortunately as with the case with these things I'm low on funds at the moment (damn Amiibo's and eShop sales!) so all I can do is look at the page with envy at the moment and hope that stock lasts for a while. The money I would have spent on that will be going towards the release of the Metroid Prime Trilogy tomorrow. Video games and Anime make for a deadly combination :p Appreciate the help as always. Will probably try to find it second hand or on eBay or such down the line if worst comes to worst.

Hey!

Anime-On-Line have the standard editions of Tiger & Bunny: The Beginning down for a later date than what we previously revealed, is their March 16th date correct? or are the films still set for February 16th? http://www.anime-on-line.com/xcart/prod ... =59&page=3

May shift a little bit due to approval delays (we're using some new artwork than our Collector's release).

Here's a kind of stupid, long winded question for Andrew. It's one of those silly things I've been thinking about, and honestly you don't need to answer it.
I finally had a look at the BDs for the Gurren Lagann movies and I noticed two things. The first is that (like the TV series) they are only presented with a 16bit Stereo track, whilst the JP BD has 24bit Stereo and 5.1 tracks for the movies.
The second is how heavily compressed they are, with the first being ~15gb for a 2 hour movie. I assume both choices were made in effort to get the filesize down to fit two BD25s (or in case of the audio - maybe Aniplex didn't supply the 5.1 track?).
I totally get that it's not viable doing two BD50s for what is mostly recap, has little appeal and a limited production run, but It's got me thinking - how much does additional BD50s add to a set cost wise for the consumer? Is it still far cheaper to do two BD25s than a single BD50?

Got a question that's more out of curiosity than anything else. On your Blood Lad Blu-ray, how come the audio for the clean opening, closing and promo is 24bit yet the series which is the main feature is only 16bit?

I personally go for BD50s wherever we can. Compression is usually a choice on the authoring studio's part and we've learned following Gurren Lagann to be very specific there.

Re audio - in this case we weren't supplied with the 5.1 tracks as my memory allows (I kind of shelved that project after I was done).

Hope this helps!

Sounding good - looking forward to the update on Mai Mai Miracle, and getting my pre-order in for Nerima Daikon Brothers.

Interesting to see those shots of the Baccano Blu-ray too - I've always thought the show had a certain 'haziness' to it, but I think that's just the colouring (there are a lot of greys and browns in the colour palette) - the lines look very clean in those shots though.

The MMM waiting game has been painful, especially when I would've paid the same money for a subtitled release ( ≧Д≦)...

On another note, would it be possible for Anime Limited to release other titles on Blu-ray that have previously only been released on DVD? I had Spice & Wolf in mind, which you probably already know is immensely popular in the west, and i'm certain it would print money if it were to be released on Blu-ray in a nice art box ( ´ ▽ ` )!

If you want it on Blu-ray, you know the US release is A/B.

I own the US release and it's very disappointing. Apart from simply putting all discs into a fat amaray case, the entire first season looks terrible by Blu-ray standards. Huge loss of detail and a darker image than it should be. The 2nd season looks fine but the first season really is a different matter (˘︹˘)

The US release isn't actually taken from the existing Bluray masters. Funi did a really dodgy upscale for the first season. The show itself was animated in 720i.
That said, I imagine the rights for a BD release reside with Manga due to BD masters existing at the time of licensing, unlike Baccano. One series I would love to see on BD from Funimation or anyone in the UK though is Darker than Black's first season. I'm pretty sure BD masters for that show didn't exist until after it's initial release.

Didn't Funimation want to bring out a Blu-ray version for Season 1 (once the masters were available) but couldn't due to some license issues?

First I've heard of it. Maybe it's Aniplex being Aniplex. Apparently it's very difficult for AniplexUSA to do anything with titles prior to their establishment, so I doubt it's a case of them wanting to release it.
