UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

God, I really hope they’re not actually ‘sold out’ of A Place Further Than The Universe. Was hoping to pick it up with a couple of other titles later in the year.

Have watched all of A Place Further than the Universe over the last few days.

The set is very nice, the booklet in particular is nicely produced. Then the inclusion of the subs being exactly the same as the ones on Crunchyroll is very nice in terms of the details. the discs do have a misprint in terms of episode count as noted elsewhere but nothing major.

The main problem is on the English dub track where a line from episode 10 is missing (with the character saying it is visibly on screen, with no sound).

this was also present on my own copy too. fwiw, the JP track is fine there with no problems. must have been missed somewhere in the pipeline

Reps from the company are aware of the issue and are looking into it. It may be worth, from interested parties, sending an email registering an interest in a replacement. hopefully any standard edition also fixes this problem.

With the number of errors that keep on cropping up in Anime Limited's releases, there has to be a systematic problem on their end that means they keep missing these issues in whatever quality control procedures they have.

Not spotting misprinted episode numbers on discs (like c'mon, I'm all for giving smaller companies the benefit of the doubt and I really want to support physical anime releases in the UK, but they're making it increasingly more difficult).

At the end of the day, we're paying premium prices for what are essentially 'boutique' anime blu-ray sets, I would expect things to be printed correctly, audio tracks to be complete, and subtitles to be accurate at this price point. I understand things may slip through on occasion, but it seems to be a regular occurrence with AL.

I've been looking forward to getting my hands on the forthcoming Bleach and Naruto sets, but now I am only worrying about the host of errors and issues that may crop up.

It really is a lovely set otherwise, much better than the typical "collector's edition" they seem to trot out.

It's going to be long time before we get a 4k releases of Godzilla minus one we still don't have the rest of the old Godzilla movies.
It's never been confirmed but rumours say that due to contract stipulations they aren't allowed to release a Japanese & American Godzilla in the same calander year, so looking at Jan 2025 at the earliest.
(In American obviously, 2026 and beyond for UK unless WB release it themselves 😂)

Does the Japanese release have English subtitles?
Unfortunately it doesn't. CDJapan is a good place to check for whether Japanese releases have English subtitles. Just be prepared for the answer almost always being no.

It already feels like ages since Minus One was in cinemas but, by Toho's lethargic standards, a six-month turnaround for a Japanese BD release is practically the fast track. Shin Godzilla was more like nine months.

I don't normally import Japanese releases that don't have subtitles, but I'm very tempted in this case. I just know that if I do blow £50+ on it then it will pop up on Prime Video in the UK a week later. 🫤

It's actually kinda annoying imo that things are starting to just randomly drop rather than get announced on the blog or a stream

Have they stopped doing their "live" streams then?

I'm guessing they may have realised that it's better to just drop things when they're ready rather than to promise things on certain dates - if something gets delayed then they don't have to announce it and disappoint fans/customers.

I'll be having that. The book looks great too. I wish AL could do some prints of the original poster art as I'd love to put them on my wall.

I'm sure Criterion will upgrade their release of Godzilla at some point, but the timeline of the Minus One release won't be impacted by it.
