Anime Expo & Otakon 2019 News/Announcements Thread

I'm kinda surprised SEED even warrants a new dub, it doesn't feel like there's a whole lot of love for that show besides the people for whom it was their gateway into Gundam, and clearly it's not a rights problem since they're apparently including the old dub as well.

I believe two factors were involved - 1) the series is apparently pretty popular and 2) the HD remaster had the same situation as Escaflowne where the old dub wouldn't fit so a new one was made by NYAV Post.

SEED is bad but I like it more than say 00 because it’s so bad, 00 takes its self so seriously I kinda hate that aspect of it. SEED by the end embraced its stupidity and made itself fun.

Macross and Harmony Gold: A Reversal of Fortune Panel:
  • Harmony Gold and Tatsunoko Productions have renewed the rights for the former to own Genesis Climber MOSPEADA, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Super Dimensional Fortress Macross. Despite the "next 35 years" quote they had used, it was never really confirmed how long they have extended it for, but chances are that it was enough so that Sony could try and make the Robotech live-action movie.

UDON more likely.

I'm not so sure on the Udon front. They had the main series for 3/4 but have obviously lost out on 5, whereas the Persona Q manga was handled by Kodansha. I'd assume in this situation the 5 mangas are all going with Viz or someone who could outbid or offer something Yen couldn't. Udon have been super quiet as of late, so that's the last place I'd expect them to be turning up.

I always thought e-ink displays (assuming that's what this is) could be a real benefit for digital manga/comics. As soon as they can perfect and make affordable colour e-ink displays, it could help western comics too.

Truth be told, though many of his videos can be interesting, I have a hard time getting into 'The Anime Man' die to the dismissive attitude he has towards dubs that, as someone who depends on them, rubs me too much the wrong way.
