Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars

Shingu is a new series being released by TRSI in the US. It appears to have been completely ignored by the fan subbers, and by everyone else for that matter. Having seen the first disc, I can't fathom why. Suffice to say that it is very good, at least so far. It seems to be mostly a mixture of...

    Tsubasa Chronicle

I had the same problem as Miaka-chan and Paranoia Agent. Except that after not liking two or three episodes, I gave up. I prefer the manga, and that's a fair way from briliant itself.

    Early review: Texhnolyze #1

Alright, I'll bite. In what sense? What does anime-like even mean, given that that it's a medium that varies enormously over genres, stories, and styles? There are plenty of stereotypes, but there are also a fair number of shows that don't live up to any of them - why is this one so much more...

    Exciting Play.com anime DVD sale

I was just checking the sale again (my credit card feeling a little over-confident), and I noticed they seem to have added some more titles, seemingly picked at random.

The Anime/Manga I Bought Today Was...

A couple of weeks ago, I broke down and bought Kino's Journey, which was well worth it. Today, I got Piano, which is just lovely. I've also ordered Shingu on the advice of a friend, and should have that soon. New anime is lovely; poverty less so.

    Review: R.O.D.: the TV #1

On the US DVDs, the previews were in the extras section. They aren't particularly useful as previews, but they are quite funny.

    ADV UK July releases

Whilst I can understand some bitterness towards those that download lots of fan-subs but refuse to buy anything, I can hardly see the problem with waiting for a sale or for some spare cash. Besides which, most of the people I know would probably buy considerably less anime if it weren't for...

    ROD The TV

I really liked the quiet feel of the opening episodes (although I seem to be mostly alone in this ...), but it does get more "exciting" later on. They even introduce a plot later. A great series, and with a truly brilliant English dub, too.

    Nausicaä

I felt someone should rectify the near criminal lack of a Nausicaä thread on these forums, and it doesn't look like anyone else is going to bother. I normally steer clear of more serious titles, preferring something a little more light-hearted, but Nausicaä is good enough for me not to care...

    Do you collect anime OSTs?

No interest at all. I rarely notice the music when I'm watching something, beyond the opening and closing themes (and often not even them). I don't even buy CDs of regular music. Or download it. Or listen to the radio, or anything. If music be the food of love, I'm not hungry.

    is fanservice a killer?

On further reflection, I think we're using the wrong definition of fan service. We're really just talking about the boobs-and-pants variety, but that isn't really the extent of fan service. The whole point of the term, after all, is to include anything that exists solely to gratify fans and...

    is fanservice a killer?

    Arguably this is also fanservice.

    Series preference?

I think 13 and 26 episode works best in general, but of course it depends on the series. Shorter series tend to be paced more evenly than long ones, which helps them, but a longer series has the obvious advantage of there being more room for character/plot development.

    is fanservice a killer?

Oddly enough, I was considering making a thread like this the other day. So I may as well just respond to this one. I like fan service in moderation. The odd attractive girl doesn't do any harm as far as I'm concerned, and the right outfit can do plenty to improve this. I object to the idea...

Old school anime - your favourite?

Well, I voted for Ranma ½, which I think is my favourite there. However, I've recently seen Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, and rather liked it. Well, around 90-95% of it, anyway. And I haven't watched the movie yet, which is apparently quite dreadful ... but overall I still liked it a lot...

Manga Ent. UK dominate London MCM

Millennium Actress? Wow, Manga releasing something that I'm actually peripherally interested in. Not unheard of, I suppose, but still pretty unusual. I also applaud their efforts at producing a dub for Innocence, even though I'm not interested in the film itself.

    ~The avatar thread~

I find it easier to just read the user names. Probably because I have the text in my browser set absurdly large so that I can actually read it from a distance, as opposed to pictures which don't change size. Besides which I just use forum's ability to remember when I last logged on and find new...

    Review: Excel Saga

I quite like Excel Saga, but I don't think it's as good as a lot of people make out. The quality seems to vary a lot from episode to episode, with some of them really not being very good at all. Which, I suppose, is acceptable for an experimental comedy, but still doesn't make particularly good...

    ~The avatar thread~

I suppose it's hardly worth pointing out that I have no avatar at all. It's more mysterious that way, see? That and I'm too indecisive to pick anything.

Jubei-chan Secret of the Lovely Eye-patch!

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's the funniest thing I've ever seen, but it is very good. Funny, sweet, weird, containing magical ninja girls, and just overall weird. And, of course, rather cheap. Hmm, it's been a long time since I saw this actually. And I should be revising, but ... Oh, and...
