umm i totally don't recall any blood-draining killings happening in manga/anime that were like that. The nearest I could equate it to would be the Blue Sonnet manga.

I'm with Chaos on the recommendations, but if u fancy some stuff that's fairly Ghibli-esque and/or summery (I'm assuming you've seen all the films), try the four "seasons" animes (Clannad, Air, ONE and Kanon) or SOMEDAYS DREAMERS? They are my favourites!

I dunno, I always make sure my players are multi region, a lot of them will play both these days. I remember the old days when you'd see an NTSC conversion on a fan video, those colours were crazy...it was awesome.

Don't you just love Anime Legends. Haven't had any trouble with US boxsets tho.
