tempting since i still haven't had more to watch than the first DVD, but i'll rage before Ryo can get here. It is meant to be Mai-Hime. Though that is the fault of bandai, somehow getting a name mixed up with a word like "My".

Sunrise's official site spells the title "My-HiME" in its url. WHAT COULD THIS MEAN?

Anyway, not sure if I'm going to pick this up. I rented the whole series a couple of years back, and while I enjoyed the fanservice and rather intense drama of the second half, the ending is just dreadful.

Hmm, they did? Right. I don't see how Mai and my are one and the same, since i'm sure they had it down as Mai before the official translation came out....ah well. If Ryo wants to complain, let him, hah, i know otherwise anywho.

officially the title is mai-hime after the main char mai but sunrise decided to change it yak yak yak

not worth arguing over

oh and watch it jap sub as the dub of it is terrible ^^

I thought it had always been a [terrible] pun in the title; I've certainly been randomly alternating both spellings since I first saw a trailer in Japan so I must have got that from somewhere.

Since Mai doesn't mean anything in English, and even in Japanese it's not the exact same word as the character's name (according to my quick Google she is 舞衣 with an extra character), it makes sense for them to go with the version a casual English anime fan will be able to pronounce. Though I guess they'd probably say "My Hyme" or "My Heem" anyway.

it on the other hand definately HiME not hime.
Isn't it "Mai HiME" a pun on "Mai Waifu" so "my" is perfectly corect. And getting rid of the agonising pun isn't that bad as a title chage.
Tho' Otome's title is "舞-乙HiME"
It's written as "MY HiME" and "MY 乙 HiME" on the Japanese BD releases

The pun is a three way pun on Mai's name, the English word "my" (in conjunction with "hime" meaning Princess as well as "HiME") and the actual meaning of the kanji used (Mai/Dance - it is used in the show to refer to the "dance" that the girls are put through by Nagi/the rest of the antagonists). It's broadly impossible to recreate directly in English.

Yuck at scratched disk 3, had to be skiped to the main menu, shall see if it gets stuck elsewhere. At least not bad enough to break out the VLC already; that will seriously play things that look like they've been attacked with a wire brush, or worse were authored by Bandai Ent. -_-'
Dislike the case slightly, holes in centre bit result in you fingerprinting the disks rather easily. Also disks fall out easily, which is also not good.

edit: Yup it's going to need a return :(.

I have, Sola has all kinds of encoding problems on it . Any encode related probelm normally doesn't get fixed, we get the same error as the US does. You prob haven't been comparing the right titles/got lucky.

That one was almost certainly disk scratches tho', they look bad enough to actually be a probelm.
