Back from my holiday in Japan. Brought back quite a number of souvenirs, including a lot of merch from Only Yesterday, my favorite anime. Most of it was found on my final day in Tokyo, so I was quite lucky to have found this much, as it's very difficult to find any merch from that movie.

Aside from the Only Yesterday merch I was also extremely lucky to find the Kyoko figure during my stay in Japan. I've visited countless figure stores, but only one store had any Maison Ikkoku figurines at all (found on my second day in Japan!)

I couldn't believe my eyes when I found so much Only Yesterday merch on my final day in Japan! In the first 11 days I was only able to find the cd and the small item next to it. I also found a movie poster, but all Ghibli stores had these, so it wasn't a rare find. Then on the 12th day I finally found 'The Art of Only Yesterday' which I never found in my previous trip to Japan in 2023 and didn't find the other 11 days. On that same day I encountered that specific difficult to find book two more times! All the other items were also found during this final day in numerous stores. My friends who were with me started mocking me after a while 😂

The Gyarados-item on the right is a small towel, the one on the top is a koinobori, a windsock.

That was a completely random find in Kyoto on a random corner on the street! I immediately knew I had to buy it. The same thing happened with the Maison Ikkoku record which has the 5th ending theme (Sayonara no Dessan) which is my favourite ending of that series. These two records sparked a new hobby. Next time I'm visiting Japan I'm going to hunt for old anime records

I was also quite lucky to find Kirby's Dream Land and X for the Gameboy. These were also only encountered once during my entire stay. Same thing with the Kimagure Orange Road magazines.

Oh, I also see a few Ocean Waves items in your haul, Puringa - that is another favorite Ghibli movie of mine, along with Only Yesterday, Whisper of the Heart, and From Up on Poppy Hill. I really love the slice-of-life romance titles from Ghibli. Also Porco Rosso and Howl's Moving Castle for the romance in them too, although there are some fantasy aspects in those as well.

I own that same The Art of Only Yesterday art book you have in your photo, along with 21 more matching "The Art of" art books for most of Ghibli's other movies. The only ones I don't have art books for are Grave of the Fireflies, Pom Poko, and The Boy and the Heron.

I've just had this arrive at Stackry so looking forward to getting my hands on it soon! this movie really surprised me when I originally watched it, for some reason I thought I wasn't going to enjoy it much but it became one of my favourite Hosoda movies.

So I'm not the only one who considers this underrated, probably have it tied for 2nd with Summer Wars if I had to rank the films I've seen from Hosoda.

#4: VideoGamesPlus Limited Run Games Haul
Canadian retailer VideoGamesPlus received a new batch of releases from Limited Run Games and they included a few titles that I was after, especially one of them.

PS5 Haul 2026 - Love is all around, SOTD & Star Ocean First Departure 2.jpg

We'll start off with Star Ocean: First Departure R, which is a remaster of the PSP remake of the original Super Famicom Action RPG by Enix & Tri-Ace. I've owned the digital version for a few years now but I've wanted to own physical whenever possible and this marks the first PlayStation 4 Limited Run Games title for my collection, as I've been avoiding them admittedly due to the spine numbering which I felt was daft and would have caused OCD. Granted there were a few titles that I could have gotten for PS4 over the years instead of Switch but in general I have no regrets (except for missing out on Castlevania Requiem because Konami never brought it over to other platforms due to using a PSP emulator from the PS4 era of re-releases).

But this won't be the only PS4 title for the collection, since LRG do have plans to release a physical for Capcom's Onimusha 2 remaster which I'm looking forward to owning. I also believe this is the first Square Enix LRG title as well so I am curious to see if they have plans to bring other titles like Resonance of Fate, Star Ocean: The Last Hope and Voice of Cards for physical later down the line for example.

Moving on we have a Chinese interactive dating sim game with Love is all around by developer intiny. This is similar in format to the Vanity Fair: The Pursuit game that I picked up a few months back, so I expect amusingly fast dialogue, some typos in the translation and nice visuals and also an easy trophy list on top of that.

And while this wasn't part of the latest batch I also added Shadows of the Damned Hella Remastered from Grasshopper Interactive. I have the original PlayStation 3 version which I did play and enjoyed the ride so I'm looking forward to revisiting the game via this release. I did check to see if there were plans for a UK/EU physical but there aren't any (whereas Lolipop Chainsaw did thanks to Clear River Games). EA published the original version while NetEase Entertainment published the remaster. Shinji Mikami also produced and Suda51 wrote the story for this game so it's another intriguing collaboration.

#5: UNIQLO Shueisha 100th Anniversary T-Shirts
Next we have a fun set of T-Shirts that UNIQLO have produced as part of their latest collaboration for the UT line-up. Here they are celebrating Japanese publisher Shueisha's 100th anniversary with a series of T-Shirts based on different manga IPs.

So the ones I went for were Jujutsu Kaisen, Kinnikuman (also known in the west as Ultimate Muscle) and Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac. They also have shirts available that are based on Captain Tsubasa, Golden Kamuy, Hunter x Hunter, Kingdom and Yu Yu Hakusho, with a second batch arriving late April that also includes GANTZ and KochiKame.

The shirts only started becoming available since Monday 16th and they don't get reprinted, so I suggest if you want to grab some you should do so sooner than later.

From Kristen Schaal aka Mabel Pines from Gravity Falls, Jake Jr from Adventure Time, Sarah Lynn from Bojack Horseman and Louise Belcher from Bob's Burgers. But outside of her voice acting work she's been in the likes of Flight Of The Conchords, Bill And Ted Face The Music, The Last Man On Earth and What We Do In The Shadows
