Defective or Disappointing UK Anime Discs

I've seen this has been posted about before, way, way back but I just stuck in my Manga UK DVD copy of the Macross Plus OVA and the discs are all mislabelled and because the DVD I have is part of a twin-pack with the Movie Edition which I don't own as I picked this up individually in CeX, I don't have the first two episodes to watch.

From my research it seems OVA disc one contains Episode 3 - 4, OVA disc two includes the Movie Edition and the Movie Edition disc contains Episode 1 - 2 so I'll have to pick up the Movie Edition on DVD to get Episode 1 - 2.

I didn't pick up the blu-ray Ultimate Edition as I don't like awkward sized cases. I will be picking up the standard blu-ray for the Movie Edition though but I am still hoping down-the-line we'll get a regular sized LE / CE which includes the OVA's.

Tbh, the Disney+ versions of Macross Plus are probably better quality than these old DVD's but I don't have much need for a D+ subscription at this point in time. Plus I just want to own a version of the OVA's on home video.
I have the Manga UK “Macross Plus Ultimate Edition” DVD (3 discs, 2 cases, card sleeve), and the discs AREN’T mislabelled. I just chucked them in to make sure.

Iirc the single sets that came with the Manga Force magazine were mislabeled though.
Well, as luck would have it; I’ve also got the “Manga Force” discs…
They don’t seem to be mislabelled either.

Specific to LD’s points: The disc labelled and packaged as “The Movie” is indeed the movie (code VFC01466 same as the retail disc), and the episodes 1/2 disc correctly contains the episode 1 and 2 (both by menu and end credits)

Would CEX even have taken non-retail/barcodes discs (back when they took DVDs)? My inference was that LD had a partial/split retail set.

I checked both discs of my copy and disc one which says Episode 1 - 2 contains Episode 3 - 4 and disc two which says Episode 3 - 4 contains the Movie Edition.

I've ordered the Movie Edition from CeX which should match up with this set to see what is contained on that disc.

If I have no luck I'll get rid of both copies and just watch the OVA's on Disney+ eventually and wait for the standard edition of the Movie Edition on blu-ray to release.

For what it's worth, I have the Macross Plus Ultimate Edition 3-DVD set from Manga Entertainment as well as the Manga Force version of Macross Plus: The Movie, and I can report that my discs are NOT mislabelled either.

Maybe there was a separate print run at some point that resulted in mislabelled discs? Dunno. 🤷‍♂️

Just to jump on this as I still have my original copy and can confirm initial copies were mislabelled. As mentioned, mine also has disc labelled movie which is actually parts 1 & 2, parts 1 & 2 is actually 3 & 4 and 3 & 4 is actually the movie. Very confusing the first time you put it in!

My copy of Macross Plus: Movie Edition arrived from CeX but it ended up being the Manga Force version of it so it has the corrected disc. I'll just trade these back in and either pick up the double-pack so I know whatever version I get will have all the discs will be there, mislabelled or not or just not bother and hope AL will release a standard edition or regular sized CE containing the OVA's.

I did take a gamble with CeX online tbf as even if a title has multiple releases, sometimes they're all under the same listing so you could receive whatever version.
