UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

All cinema and video releases by law must be rated by the bbfc for an age rating U, PG, 12A/12, 15 and 18. Hardcore porn was illegal but In 2000 the law was changed but hardcore porn carried the rating of R-18, but with this new found freedom for porn still carried a price in that R-18 rated content could only be sold in licensed sex shops and it is illegal to distribute R-18 rated content through the British Post so post order is not an option (mind you I was aware of one site that bypassed this by posting R-18 content to Spain then selling it back to UK customers by international Post, the law only covers UK Post after all), maybe all that made sense in 2000 but now when everything is done online it does make you wonder if the law is outdated.

The new edition of Cyber City Oedo 808 is a significant visual upgrade over the original. Setting aside the obvious instances of compression artefacting on the old one, I didn't think the rest of it looked bad at the time, but there's a night and day difference to the new one. The background paintings especially benefit due to all the detailed cityscapes on display. I was hesitant about double-dipping, but I'm glad I did now.

I also noticed a little Easter egg with the catalogue number of the new disc, which is ANI0808.

So i finally watched cyber city oedo 808 and my thoughts on it are ........................................................................... GIVE US MORE GUNDAM AL. Sorry thought I'd channel my inner @HellCat .

all in all i did enjoy it and is a great example of a product of it's time particularly the dub. Must say however I prefer the Japanese soundtrack and given the desire these day's for more accurate dub's I wouldn't mind going back again like the re-dub of akira.

I'd kinda like to see a modern re-dub of the OG Devilman anime but for some reason I just don't think it'd be as good without an unnecessary f'bomb every sentence 😂

Because it came up in conversation elsewhere- still wish we could have seen that Tomino video that was shot for MCM London 2016 but glitched. Just feels there should have been a backup somewhere that could have gone on the blog or something.

Similarly the footage they took that we were told was going on the Japanese blu-rays never got used either.

Can someone confirm or deny:
Do Seraph of the End and Heroic Legend of Arslan use the Universal Discs - including French & German language options?
I can confirm that Seraph of the End uses the Universal discs. Unfortunately, I'm unable to confirm anything regarding The Heroic Legend of Arslan as I don't have the release.

A couple of frames of the new Cyber City disc, and I am happy. The disc that should have been released to begin with. What's funny is that the documentary contains clips from the first attempt, and it only highlights just how bad that was.
Had a look myself and yeah, it's stunning. Takes me right back to 1994 whenever I watch Cyber City: almost 30 years later and finally it looks perfect. Worth the wait.

Annoyingly, I can't sell the old version as there's no way I can part with the amazing art/info booklet.

UP have stock btw, few quid cheaper than the current AL store price.

The soundtrack CD is a big draw as well. I am not pleased with the way AL handled the Cyber City releases. I wound up spending £50 on one title twice, even with an unimpressive £5 rebate. For me, the first disc was faulty and should have been treated as such.
