Mobile Suit Gundam (The Original 1979 Series, Dubbed): Episodes 1-3.

I've never seen Gundam, other than one episode from one series I cannot remember the name of years ago at Teesside University's Animation and Comic Society. So I thought I would start right from the beginning and see what it is like.

I've been enjoying it so far. You can certainly see the origins of a lot of mecha tropes that appear in later series - e.g. young boy dragged unwillingly into a conflict, finding himself the key focus of the fighting upon whom everything depends.

Gee that sounds like nearly every gundam series

Sengoku Collection Episode 1

It's been so long since I've been able to try out a new show and dismiss it as utter crap with just one episode. I thought the premise in itself was very weird, but I was willing to give it a shot. I really shouldn't have.

I have so many complaints about just this one episode - like the main guy (Was he even given a name? I think there was a name tag at some point) being so open to not only accept this random stranger into his house and feed her, but to accept that she's' Oda Nobunaga merely because she didn't flinch when a gun was pointed at her?

Then there's the animation. Now, I don't claim to have any knowledge about animation or the industry - but the animation (particularly the backgrounds) were terrible. So static, uninspired and downright plain.

The only thing non-negative comment I can make about this series is the majority of the character designs for the girls; which I have no doubt was done to sell figures and all that jazz.

EDIT:
Fairy Tail 126...I think I've been scarred for life.

Mirai Nikki ep 26 FINALE

Oh those teases! I was wondering which manga ending they were going to do, I thought we were going to get the full Biscuithammer ending but they left us with a "new project"! It's got to be Mirai Nikki Paradox, with the rest of the ending on the blurays...unless they go completely crazy and give us a new original season...
In any case, I really liked this. They captured the insanity of the manga VERY well and pulled off a great adaptation. I had misgivings at first since I did not like the pilot OVA but they were dispelled from the moment I saw the end of the 1st ep. Oh Yuno~ <3

Zetman ep3
Still enjoying it, not much else to report

Kids on the Slope ep1
Now that's what I'm talkin' about. The 60's period setting, the jazz music, the slowly developing friendships...I'm gonna love this one.

Tsuritama ep1
The colours and animation in this were breathtaking I thought, but it's definitely...different in terms of its sense of humour. I'm intrigued though.

Sankarea ep2
I think I might just prefer this adaptation to the manga. Rea's backstory was very well done (and more horrifying than I remember) and I can really root for Chihiro and Rea's developing relationship. I can't stress enough how much I am in love with that ending song either!

Kore wa Zombie desu ka OF THE DEADDDDDO ep 2 and Medaka Box ep 2
Zombie is still consistently funny, will keep watching. Medaka Box was ok (loved Medaka dressed as a dog), still waiting on the genre shift

Ozma ep5
Sam's annoying me, but I still love the retro feel. I would love to have seen this a bigger budgeted movie. Looking forward to the finale.

Eureka Seven AO ep 1
Kudos for hiring an actual 15 year old to voice Ao. I loved this first ep : loads of terminology I didn't understand, scub coral doing their thing, nice music, missing parents...this definitely felt like Eureka Seven  I liked Ao as well, he seems assertive. Eagerly awaiting the next episode.

Accel World ep 2
Still liking this adaptation. Looking forward to more Haru headbutts.

Mysterious Girlfriend X ep 2 and Dusk Maiden of Amnesia ep 2
Yup, definitely "a giant robot story where the girl is the giant robot". I love Urabe's voice, it's so natural and really fits her. The 90's visuals and music are very appealing and the manga has been done justice. For Dusk Maiden, Yuuko's playful nature and teasing of Teiichi were great fun. Visuals still lovely.

Coicent
For a 25 min OVA, this was quite good, though I would have liked it to have been longer. Took me a while to get used to the animation technique (like the initial Haruhi-chan eps, I see the director did Freedom as well) but I liked the imagination.

Phew, apologies for the long post! This season is more than a little insane in terms of shows I want to watch! Really loving it, although it doesn't bode well for the progress of the multiple essays I have to do...

Just started Ponyo; first impressions: This kid is a freakin' moron. What kind of kid sees that the sea has eyes and shrugs it off as "that was kinda weird" and thinks that a...whatever Ponyo is... is a goldfish? Jeez...

Mobile Suit Gundam AGE - Episode 27

They finally get to Earth!!

Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 - Episode 2

Another great episode and I love the design of the GP02.

I thought rui ment the hole series like, the hole collection so I mistook it.

Angel Beats 1-6
This is an odd show; the combination of wacky comedy and serious/ridiculous melodrama (hello Key) doesn't always sit comfortably side-by-side. Throw in musical performances for some bizarre reason, and you have a show that feels all over the place. But hey, at least all that is better than the male character designs, which are so generic that the guys are most easily distinguishable by their hair colour. The two main females are obviously where the most attention went, and perhaps unsurprisingly I'm okay with that.

City Hunter 1

This show jumps the shark half-way through the first episode, which must be some kind of record. Bad enough is the awfully cliché robber-takes-hostage situation set-up for no other reason than to show just how much of a badass the protagonist Ryo is; but what happens next--Ryo SHOOTING THROUGH HIS OWN HAND in order to prevent a bullet from his gun travelling through the hostage taker's body, then through the window behind him and into the crowded street beyond--obliterated my suspension of disbelief and took me right out of the episode. Maybe if I were 13 I'd find that incredibly cool, but I'm not 13 and I find it incredibly silly. And it's a shame because Ryo's a cool guy and the show seems like it'd be mildly enjoyable in a "like GTO but not as funny" kind of way.
