I think this show is too similar to Horimya and the side-characters sort of blend together so you're not sure at first which ones are from which show. I've put this on hold for now because I prefer the other one, then I can just watch it at the end of the season when there's not much on for a couple of weeks.

My Dear Marie - Episodes 1 - 3 [Final]
This is simple light hearted fun and I enjoyed for purely that and nothing more. I think it would have worked better as an 80 minute film rather than a 3 episode series as having to have a start and ending to each episode breaks up what could've been a really good story flow.

It's not a great OVA, very by the numbers (another Alien rip off) and looks crap in places but with the odd half decent action scene and ultimately deserves it's terrible reputation!

My Dear Marie - Episodes 1 - 3 [Final]

Just finished watching Patlabor: The New Files, marking the end of my time with the Patlabor franchise for now. This was a series that I order from the US on the strength of the Mamoru Oshii movies alone, which I watched at the tail end of 2019 and eventually watched the originall OVA and third movie, along with the TV series over summer. Feeling a little exhausted, even as much as I was enjoying it, I opted to leave the final 16 episode OVA till I felt recharged and wanting more. Now here I am, a little sad it's over.
The main draw for most if they've made it this far in the franchise is probably the Griffon episodes which conclude a storyline that started in the TV series and while it is nice to get a proper conclusion to that, I find them the weakest of the lot. I got a lot more enjoyment out of the more "slice of life" episodes, something that was the absolute strength of the TV series for me. Seeing SV2 go about their day, which doesn't always involve giant mechs duking it out in the street, was endlessly entertaining and the crew would usually find themselves in some ludicrous situations. From the burning of an unhealthy amount of pornography causing ideological splits and a civil war amongst the maintence crew, to a former member and a new member of Unit 2 getting into a drinking match or an Ultraman fever dream parody, these are just the episodes contained within The New Files OVA. It continued the TV series consistent production value so the animation was always enjoyable. My personal favourite episodes were, It's Called Amnesia, where Ota wakes up with amnesia and finds himself on the run from his own unit, and Our Karuizawa, which finds Goto and Shinobu sharing a room at a love hotel due to a storm.
I believe there's a reboot in the works headed by Yasuhiro Yoshiura, director of Patema Inverted, I look forward to seeing what comes of that. Until then.

I remember that being announced, but I think it’s been quiet for possibly as much as two years now. It’s a shame, there was a short/pilot film released around the time (I think it might have been part of the Japan Animator Expo?) that looked very promising. It was CGI, but it in a similar vein to Time of Eve, and it seemed to have caught the same tone and feel of the original.

An interesting series, although part of the ending felt like they were hoping for another series to get made (With the main baddies carrying with their plot, another part was quite sad With the ghost of one of the main characters saying goodbye.

revenge rape part was still very uncomfortable even though the actual act itself was off screen. The bit that was possibly even worse was afterwards when he changed her face, wiped her memory, faked her death and then made her believe that they lovers and had her beg for sex moments after she woke up! In the ED she's one 5 in a harem and the next episode is called "Buying a Slave" which doesn't bode well for how he gets the next member!
