Masamune-kun's Revenge ep3

Went back to this as I couldn't get this week's Konosuba to play for some reason. It's still okay, but (and I'm sure this sounds rich after I accused Scum's Wish of being edgy) I find it a bit affectedly inoffensive - the premise suggests something much darker than how they're playing it. It makes me miss Prison School.

Space Brothers : Somehow I'm up to episode 40 of this amazing show. Current arc deems pretty different to the rest (in a very good way).

Great characters, good drama and rather funny at times.

At 99 episodes I'd imagine some people hesitate to commit to spending so much time on a show, especially since longer running shows have a reputation for having lulls. Space Brothers is actually pretty consistently brilliant, if you enjoy the first couple of episodes then you're in for some 94 more episodes of similar or better quality. Trying a couple of episodes isn't so much of a commitment and you'll at least have a pretty good idea of whether the remaining episodes are likely to be worth it for you. There aren't too many shows like Space Brothers and it'd be a shame to miss out if you're one of the lucky people that it appeals to.

Lucky Star-Episodes 6-10

Hmm. Apparently a new director took over after episode 7, because the other guy was doing a poor job, but honestly, I can't say I've noticed any real difference myself. Tsukasa is still cute, especially when she's using her phone :p

Gabriel Dropout-Episode 4

I'd love to know why they decided to run credits at the 15 minute mark and then have an 8 minute long post credits scene. That's like, half the episode!

KonoSuba Season 2 - Episodes 2 & 3 - Good stuff, Megumin still the best but they better bring Darkness back soon >_> This is actually the only show from this season I'm watching (still not finished the ones from last season) but I honestly think I've probably picked the best one anyway... That's not to say I won't pick up anything else, but seems unlikely at this point.

Still the CR app refuses to let me watch Konosuba. Seriously, what the hell.

Black Jack (2004) ep1

Been curious about seeing some of the more canon Black Jack anime ever since I watched Young Black Jack last year, so decided to give this one a shot. It seems a more light-hearted affair, perhaps in part due to Tezuka's cartoony artwork, but also in the story feeling just a little bit silly, like an episode of Casualty. It's amusing enough though - I feel like I'd probably get more out of Dezaki's take on the franchise, but I'll stick with this for now.

Also I did not know that Black Jack's wounds were originally caused by an unexploded bomb, strangely something I don't think YBJ ever touched on.

Lucky Star-Episodes 11-16

As much as I do like the references to FMP and Haruhi, I can't help but feel as if, in this universe, they're the only anime that exist. Since they're the only two that are ever name checked, it just feels kinda weird. That Sousuke x Gauroun doujin bit was great though. I also have to ask, what on Earth is going on with the credits? It's just ... weird.

ACCA 13-Episode 4

Hey, some things actually happened this week :p

(I actually like this show a lot, but it is rather slow)

I started watching Black Jack (2004) and the Black Jack OVAs recently because I loved Young Black Jack. The OVAs are definitely the better of the two so far and not as lighthearted. The annoying walking tumour still follows him around though.

Shimoneta ep1-2

Another show I probably wouldn't have touched had the local club not picked it up, this was far more entertaining than I expected. It's daft as a brush, but it attacks its ridiculous subject matter with such gleeful enthusiasm that it seems to be channeling the spirit of Go Nagai's smutty comedies. I didn't follow the show when it came out, so I don't know if it stayed on point throughout, but there also seems to be a vague, but prescient comment about freedom of speech underneath all the juvenile humour too.
