Himotou! Umaru-chan!-Episode 11

This episode didn't do a lot for me, unfortunately. I did enjoy the Evangelion parody though.

Hunter x Hunter-Episodes 118-121

Episode 119: Once again, Killua proves he's the biggest badass in the entire show.

Episode 120: Hina remains incredibly cute. That is all.

Episode 121: Youpi is a Centaur now? Sure, let's go with that.

Yu-Gi-Oh GX (Subbed)-Episode 27

Don't you just hate it when your cat accidentally sends you to a different dimension?

I have to admit, I thought the Gendo pose Eva parody was kind of lame - it's just such a cheap shot at laughs. I mean, I still chuckled, but it's such an obvious thing to do, and it's certainly not the first anime to parody it either.

I'm definitely still enjoying the show as a whole though.

I dunno, I liked the Gendo hands on a stick. You're right, it has been done a lot before, but still, the rest of the episode didn't really have a lot else in terms of gags. It felt weirdly void of them. It's as if they traded in all of their jokes for shots of Umaru eating or something...

Himouto! Umaru-chan Episode 11.

I have to admit, I kind of agree with the above comments. While I did think there were a few decent moments, it kind of felt like they were wasting the second last episode. I'm not really sure what the Ebina story was about (she likes food? Fair enough), TSF just seemed to appear for the sake of it and Kirie-chan was awesome. Still, even with Kirie-chan being Kirie-chan, it felt a bit odd to have that brief moment that didn't go anywhere (I guess it'll be relevant in the next episode but it still felt oddly placed).

It was also odd the way that Onii-chan seemed to be acting as though it was the last episode. His little speech seemed like a very last episode thing but it really fell flat because it felt out of place. All it really did was get me worried that there wasn't going to be a next episode.

The Ebina story really was quite strange, I didn't know what to make of it. It did also feel partly like a repeat of what happened before, I'm sure Ebina's accent slipped out last time. What I found particularly odd (and this might just be me) was when they said "it's okay" when Ebina's accent slipped out. It could be interpreted as "it's okay, you don't have to hide your accent" or "it's okay, we forgive you". While I'd like to assume it was the former, it seemed odd that they didn't just expressly state that rather than just leaving it as "it's okay".

I have to admit, I'd just been assuming that Bomber was Bomber's real name, or at least what he'd be known to everyone as. I doubt that Kirie-chan doesn't know her brother's name, anyway. Bomber not appearing in the episode much probably didn't help it any.

I did quite like the snack buying. The discussion itself was okay but I liked the fact that deep down Umaru without the hoodie really is a part of Umaru and it was also neat the way that it reinforced that Umaru cares for Onii-chan, even if she doesn't have as much faith in him as she maybe should.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what happens in the next episode. If it really is going to be a group trip there'll be a few interesting aspects, like Kirie-chan spending time with the "real" Umaru (and finding out Onii-chan is friends with her brother) and also how they'll convince Sylphyn to come along with her rival (probably on the basis of making it a competition).

I also watched YuruYuri Season 2 Episodes 1-3.

Most of my issues with Season 1 don't seem to apply to Season 2. There are more slice of life/cute girls doing cute things aspects with some heartwarming moments and a bit more about the characters rather than just jokes. Episode 3 is particularly strong, it's almost entirely focussed on Sakurako and Himawari (more from Sakurako's point of view but it does a nice job of incorporating both) and has some nice relationship development and feeling. They even pretty much cut out Sakurako getting randomly angry at boobs, she doesn't ignore the boobs altogether but it works much better and kind of makes sense when she refers to them rather than being random.

I guess the main four still aren't quite as strong as the side characters but even they get some nice moments in these early episodes.

It'll be interesting to see if the show continues this way or falls more into old patterns. I certainly prefer it, though I guess some people would have liked it more the old way.

The movie is pretty great - especially after the disappointing second season. I'd imagine seeing it in a cinema will certainly be an experience too, especially audio wise. Just watching it with the surround track on my 2.1 setup was pretty impressive.

Evangelion Ep10
Macross II Eps 3&4
City Hunter Ep4
Gunsmith Cats OVA Eps 1-3

I'd forgotten just how many of the English EVA dub cast were in Gunsmith Cats - Amanda Winn Lee, Kimberley Yates, Tiffany Grant, Allison Keith, Spike Spencer, Jason Lee, Brett Weaver....

Fate/Stay Night - Episode 0 (DUB)

Eugh... the dub for this is thoroughly underwhelming. I had high hopes considering Zero's dub was pretty strong and held up well against the original Japanese dub. Rin is somewhat passable albeit annoying, but Archer and especially Lancer (who has been re-cast since Zero) are just bad. The script is occasionally pretty cringe worthy too. Based on this episode it's easily the weakest dub Aniplex have had produced, but hopefully Shirou's side in Episode 1 will be an improvement. I don't think I've wanted to hear Bryce Papenbrook's voice so much before.

Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace - Episode 11 (Complete)
So this series is a bit of a mess, tonally it's all over the place. It character range from cliche to ridiculous and It gives up being a mystery show half-way through and just becomes a weird comedy-drama. But despite all this, I really enjoyed it, for me it worked and for the two or so weeks in which I've been watching it, I never knew what was coming next, even though I really wanted to. I'm not sure it quite clicked for anybody else though, as the comments surrounding seem to be most negative.

Log Horizon - Episodes 22-25 (Series 1 Complete)
Ever since episode 19, the show abandoned any attempt to build to anything. I'm wondering if the production staff got the news the show had been renewed around that point, because the episodes after that point all function fine as the middle of season, but are distinctly filler-esque for the last 5 episodes of a long running series. Also, the last half of the last episode felt entirely like set-up for the second season, which is fine I guess, but the arc before wasn't really satisfying enough to get away with it.

Durarara!!x2 Ten (Japanese audio) - Episodes 04-07 (x2 Episodes 16-19)

That opening is amazing.

What what?

It's just my initial reaction for the last episode of Okusama. The father is 41 but looks like a child, just like the mother and even though it's apparently faithful to the manga there's no proper conclusion to the anime whatsoever.
