Actually, when Funi pulled their licences from MVM, YYH went with FMA, Fruits Basket, Blue Gender and the others to Revelation. I guess no one has it now. And MVM released 5 volumes of YYH
That mean FUNi have it here and aren't distroing it. So the same boat as most of their catalogue titles.
Ughr, they should just come to some bulk deal with MVM/Manga or something.
They have one with Manga, that's the problem. If they didn't MVM could pick the titles back up, as they do only older shows anyway.
FUNi switching distro to Revelation from MVM was realy bad for us. If they'd switched back again after, instead of going to manga, the UK market would be in much better shape, as there would be actual competition.
At that moment in time, there was competion. ADV still existed, while MVM were picking up Geneon licences left right and centre, and Media Blasters. MVM's relationship with Gonzo was still healthy, as Gonzo was still churning them out in Japan. Manga were the minnows at that time in the UK market, with little more than Ghost in the Shell SAC, Tactics, Saikano, Heat Guy J, Noein and Robotech of note, and only Naruto and Bleach filling the coffers. The thing about Manga is that they didn't have the juicy licences, but they had the corporate weight and backing of Starz. When Funi ditched Revelation, there was a 6 month gap before they decided on Manga. When they did that, it coincided with the anime world changing.
First Geneon shut up shop, then ADV went bust, and Funimation inherited all their licences, effectively becoming a monopoly in the US. At the same time Gonzo contracted in Japan, becoming a pale shadow of itself. ADV was gone from the US and the UK, while since the UK was 18 months behind the US, MVM had a wodgeload of Geneon and Gonzo licences to give it some breathing room, last year, the year it released Romeo X Juliet, it released over 10 titles in the UK. But now the US reality has caught up.
Manga, from a position where they were getting the leftovers, because of their relationship with Funimation, now get the cream. And because the UK industry is still geared towards dubs, and only Funimation guarantee dubs on their product, it's hard to see MVM taking advantage of the sub only industry growing in the US from the non-Funi companies like Sentai, NIS, Nozomi and so on, especially as it seems Australia from where we get our PAL masters is yet to embrace it to the same degree. I guess everyone is looking to see how Beez will do with their sub only releases, although they fell flat on their arse with Durarara when Aniplex went and dubbed it.
