Watching E4 of the Lycoris Recoil shorts makes me wonder why we haven't had any seriously good supernatural / Suspense / psychological horror anime

Instead everything seems to be mostly gore horror. Or in the case of Junji Ito adaptations. Mid AF

I still cant believe this got a Bluray release after all these years

Brings me back to the good ol days of searching Anine on ebay and the top 20 listings were "Official" region free Malaysian that were the worst kind of rubbish lol

Oh wait. That website that sounds awfully similar to Play ---- asia is still around selling dodgy dvds after all these years 😹😹😹😹😹

Yesterday
Narenare -Cheer for You!- eps 10-12 (complete)
Nice catch.
A sort of CGDCT about cheerleading, but with a bit too much melodrama surrounding an incident just prior to the events in the show. The characters were nice enough with the usual mix of archetypes, although there was a new one on me, the cheerful, but quick to get too passionate about stuff Japanese-Brazilian halfu, Anna. There's been plenty of foreigners in anime, but I think this is the first Brazilian one I can recall. Looking it up on Google seems there's plenty in football shows and also a lot in Michiko & Hatchin.
The art was OK, a lot of use of different colours for outlines, which worked OK with close ups, but when characters were far away the dominant colour was the outline colour, which was weird. The animation was OK too, but all the dance routines were pretty stiff CG.
6/10

Today
The Duke of Death and His Maid s3 eps 10-12 (complete)
The power of friendship and happy ever after.
The end of this season is also the end of the story so there were plenty of final reveals and threads tied up. I said at the end of the last season that reason for the curse could be uncompelling, but when explained fully with the flashbacks to that part of the story I felt I could understand that the reasoning was a bit more than just pure jealousy. The way it was undone was fairly moving, if a little tropey. The romantic part of the story had a beautiful ending, although again a little bit tropey with the old one leaving only for the other to make a desperate dash to bring them back.
The art and animation has been consistent throughout the story, so I'm fully used to it, even if it's not your regular style.
Back to 8/10 after s2 dip to 7.

The Dinner Table Detective ep1-3

The first episode of this did nothing for me - some obnoxious rich people try to solve crimes involving other obnoxious rich people - but it grew on me quite a bit once the introductory case was out of the way. Smugface the Butler gets on my nerves and I think I’d prefer if it was just the main two detectives working as a duo, but I ended up engaged enough to give it another episode or two at least.

Iria: Zeiram The Animation.
Would also give a shoutout to the soundtrack - the score for Iria is really great.

A Ninja and an Assassin Under One Roof episode 9 Leaves.

Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World Season 2 episode 9 Twisted heart.

Jinki: Extend episodes 4-12 (Complete. A disappointing watch for a series that’s been in the backlog for a while.) 2.5/5

JUNK HEAD (Film)
The stop-motion animation alone makes this a must watch but the dangerous and desolate world explored made it that bit more intriguing and engaging. 4/5

Moonrise - Episodes 1 - 18 [Final]

I liked the trailer for Moonrise so was keen to see the actual series and I wasn't disappointed. It did lots of things well for me, interesting plot and characters, good action with nice animation and what really ticked the final box for me was that Moonrise had a proper ending that neatly wrapped the whole story up.

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX - Episodes 8 & 9

There are some interesting ideas and plot developments in these episodes and they certainly lean heavily into the Evangelion aesthetic in various places.

Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom

I flew back from a business trip to Asia yesterday and they had MSG Seed Freedom in the film choices on the plane so watched it as I hadn't got round to it yet. I had low expectations if I'm honest but it was actually alright and I might actually try and re-watch it again at home soon.

Kishin Corps
OVAs 1-7 (Complete. Whilst the WWII setting for this had potential I felt rather indifferent to this series overall.) 3/5
