The Apothecary Diaries eps 1-6 (dub)
Fantastic so far, maybe even slightly better than Frieren, at least in terms of story and intrigue. Reminds me, a bit, of Cadfael (I looked it up for the spelling, it's debut was 30 years ago next Wednesday, f me I'm getting old!) My only problem is her knowledge seems a little too advanced, sure she has plenty experience of herbs and stuff and her street smarts is a lot better than the sheltered naivety of those in the court, but some of the terminology she uses seems pretty modern. If it was revealed at the end that she was isekai'd I wouldn't be surprised!
Art and animation wise it's pretty good too, maybe Frieren just beats it in this aspect.

Birthday Wonderland Film

I was a little disappointed with this one. All the character were just a little annoying and the plot was meh. I watched it with my daughter and it’s the first film she’s ever said “Daddy, I don’t want to watch that film again” 🤣

Space Adventure Cobra Film

Holly hell, the HDR on this film is insane. The whole film just looks gorgeous, I’m really glad I went with the 4k disc. Plot wise, it’s definitely of its time but if you lean into that, you’ll have a really fun evening.

Hats off for the cool intro, banging music and just plain weirdness (alien rave scene, yes mate)!

Also, star nipples 😵🤣

Dr. Slump: Hello! Wonder Land (Japanese) - Movie (Complete) (re-watch)

I haven't seen this movie in years (though it is only the length of an episode) so I'd forgotten a lot about it but this was a fun little movie.

Originally watched this along with a number of episodes of the original series (what was available with fan-subs at the time anyway). Would be nice if more of the series would get picked up eventually but there is quite a lot of it and is still quite niche overall despite being an Akira Toriyama work so I doubt it unfortunately.

bakemonogatari ep 1 and 2:
I tried this show years ago and wasn't a huge fan but I've mostly forgotten it except for the fact it was was a little bit on the pervy side. So I'm trying it again as I know it's very popular and wondered if I was missing something.
Well it's starting to come back to me now, why I didn't click with it. First of all, it's more pervy than I remembered. And the characters don't behave or talk like real people. And the show just exudes smugness, it's all rapid fire banter and puns (which crucially, so far are not actually funny), rapid cuts and editing with text that doesn't stay on screen long enough to be read. And ep 2 ends with the revelation that Senjogahara's problems
were essentially precipitated by her sexual assault
which just makes the show's incessant perving and objectifying of her over these two episodes seem even worse and makes the show seem a lot less self-aware than it think it is. So far all it really has going for it is its style. I'll continue though as it's only early days, hoping it gets better!

I liked Bakemonogatari and the Kizu film trilogy, but not really watched much of the Monogatari series other than that, I also enjoyed the unabridged English language audiobook of Kizumonogatari a lot, and hope they use the VAs from that if they ever dub the anime series, I get why the perviness bothers you, if I'm honest it doesn't really bother me, and I enjoy that Araragi's meant to be kind of unlikeable, he's a bit of a satire of the types of protagonists these series typically have and I enjoy that, even though I don't entirely detest him anyway. I do like the show's style a lot too. But that's the joy of life eh? We're all different. Tbh the only reason I haven't continued the series is certain gross elements in S2 that my OCD can't rly handle, but other than that I thought it was pretty lit overall from what I saw :)
