So I lied, but I couldn't start Christmas without finishing the last four episodes of Pani Poni Dash, could I? Ended as weirdly as it began. I'd probably keep it if it wasn't six DVDs and I have no space. Maybe if I install some anti-gravity shelves in the ceiling....

Let's Make a Mug Too s2 e12 (complete)
Big reveal.
I liked this a bit more than the first season. I think the characters were a bit less hyper and there was a bit more character development.

Demon Slayer: Entertainment District Arc ep 3
Decades of service.

Banished from the Hero's Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside episode 12 Fate?

The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat episode 12 (Complete. An entertaining reincarnation premise with some darker storylines throughout.) 3.5/5

Lupin III: Part VI ep10

Not that the bar is particularly high, but that was easily the best of the season so far. Hadn’t expected Oshii to return to write another episode, let alone one that feels like the closest glimpse we’ll ever get of what his unmade Lupin film might have been like - he’s on fine, weird form here. I imagine they’d never get the green light, but it makes me wish we could have a whole season scripted by him instead of just these little one-offs.

SAKUGAN episode 12 Bond. (Complete. Though the central relationship and some episodes presented a fun ride this was another anime that left me a bit indifferent come the ending.) 3/5

Delved into some festive watches tonight too.

Penguindrum
Maybe I let my expectations get too high for this. The first 3rd of the show is pretty bad. The middle 3rd once tehbstory really starts is a lot better and the final 3rd is very good. The biggest issue I had really though was that there aren't any likeable characters even though you are obviously meant to like them. The sister spends far too long being a macguffin. The red haired bro is always doing questionable things (and yet is the shows most likeable character-probably because he has the most agency). Ringo you just pity. And Blue haird bro is the worst. For the shows audience substitute who you're supposed to root for hes whiny, self obsessed, self pitying, self righteous, indecisive, and just a list of characteristics I dislike.

Redo of Healer
Revenge porn sums this up pretty well. Awful people doing heinous things to one another.

Spider-man 1
Back to start. It's a great film. CGI is pretty dated looking these days but theres a lnot of good performances especially Willem Dafoe.

Spider-man 2
Really great film this. When I was younger and these films first came out I didn't like this one as much as the first. But being older and seeing them again now I can see why its rated so much better.

Spider-man 3
I really hated this when it first came out. The way they do Venom dirty in this still annoys me. Venom was my favourite Spidey character from the cartoon. But I have to say outside of that the rest of it is actually pretty good.

Ergo Proxy eps 19-21

Pride of Orange eps 11 & 12 (complete)
Final.
This jumped the shark from the opening scene of Japan beating Canada at Ice Hockey and then the girls performed an idol-esque victory song!
It tried to meld CGDCT and sports anime together which meant the drama from the sports side wasn't as deep as it normally would and was pretty tropey. Also, unlike most sports show, I felt I didn't learn much about the sport despite quite a few training sessions.
The CGDCT side of it made it a bit unbelievable that the girls who we were first introduced to, in their school embroidery club of all places, would be first teamers in their first year playing competitively despite there being a sizable selection of senpais. The 3 introduced a bit later all played before joining though.
The idol stuff was completely random and they only performed 3 times total, being flawless despite no training bar "warm-ups" their coach insisted on. This was probably crowbarred in as it's basically an ad for a game and it worked for Uma Musume!
Despite all this it was a bit of cute fluffy fun and I enjoyed it, but it's still probably my least favourite anime from both genres.
The animation was pretty good in the games and especially the idol performance, it didn't have that cg look to either, so either they animated it really well or they made the cg blend in a lot better than I've seen.

Taisho Otome Fairy Tale
ep 12 (complete)
Belated celebration.
This was a really sweet romance story despite a bit of an uneasy set up. A boy from a rich family gets permanently injured in an accident, but instead of taking care of him his father ships him to the countryside and tells everyone he's dead! At least he buys him a wife! Yuzuki, who is 14, is said candidate and agrees to it because her father is in debt. Now I'm guessing all this is true to the historical setting and the actions and attitudes of the fathers were accepted 100 years ago, but it might be unpalatable to some. However once the 2 MCs settle into there new circumstances of new surroundings and being betrothed the romance is very gentle and never goes much further than being embarrassed at thinking about the next step. Yuzuki's friend, who I assume is the same age, does get pregnant though!
It's very much an iyashikei type of show where Yuzuki is a bundle of joy and kindness and improves peoples lives just by meeting her. The closest thing I can compare it to is Senko-san. However there is a bit of a curveball towards the end using an historical event which I found surprising, but was a good bit of drama thrown into the mix.
The art and animation were pretty good. The character designs weren't too wild, but the clothing, especially for the girls were nice.

Ranma 1/2 - Episodes 36 - 40 (Blu-ray)

That's series 2 and the first series of Netto-hen complete, you can definitely see a slight shift, it's still very funny but this series didn't develop Ranma and Akane's relationship as well as before and the animation has taken a dip in quality.

X-Bomber - Episodes 6 - 11

AMAIM Warrior at the Borderline - Episode 12

Best episode of the series so far, had great tension and mecha action.

Sakugan - Episodes 11 & 12 [Final]

Unsurprisingly there's going to be a second series. Still not sure what to make of it if I'm honest, it wasn't terrible but at the same time it was quite odd and all over the place.

Selection Project episode 13 Together. (Complete. Though the story tried some different ideas from the usual idol formula the reliance on dramatic cliffhangers wore thin after a while.) 3/5

Taisho Otome Fairy Tale
episode 12 Embrace. (Complete. The central relationship here saves a few plot points which frustrated me a bit in how they unfolded.) 3.5/5

Also watching some more festive stuff including Die Hard. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas!

December 20th - 24th.

Banished from the Hero’s Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside (English Dub) Episode 9

The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat (English Dub) Episode 5

Banished from the Hero’s Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside Episode 12 Destiny?

Komi Can't Communicate Episode 12 More festival fun. (Complete. A sweet romanctic-comedy that depicts the every day efforts that the MC takes to help them overcome their communication disorder. I found the support that's shared between the main pair is also very endearing. I'll definitely be looking forward to checking out season 2 next year.) 3.5/5

Selection Project Episode 13 (Complete. A decent Idol anime that tried to be different from it's fellow counterparts however it's constant use of the "dramatic cliffhanger" trope got old rather quickly.) 3/5

The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made Episode 12 (Complete. An isekai series with a multitude of quirky characters that overall made this an okay watch.) 2.5/5

The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat Episode 12 Duel. (Complete. Another entertaining series with reincarnation as it's premise accompanied by some rather darker story undertones throughout.) 3.5/5

White Snake Spanish dub
Very good CGI animated Chinese film. Like a Disney film but a bit darker and more grown up. I don't really know much Chinese mythology but this story was very well told and the visuals were stunning. The action and cinematography were very good too.

Earwig and the Witch Spanish dub
The mixed feelings! This film is great. It's funny, endearning, well animated, great mix of characters. But it feels like only 2 acts of a story, like they just stopped making it part way through.

The Satellite Girl and Milk Cow Spanish dub
Bizarre but fun. The movie basically has no rules and does whatever it wants to service the plot or story. But in spite of that its heartwarming, endearing, entertaining and a real good watch for its 80 min runtime.

The Amazing Spider-man 1
Always liked this film and it holds up really well. It's just very well executed and the cast is great.

The Amazing Spider-man 2
This is much better than I remembered. It has its issues - Electro having the power of dub step is just silly. But all of the Peter and Gwen stuff is excellent, the Peters dad mystery is a lot of fun, the action and acting is all great. The dual themes of hope and running out if time come together very nicely.

I've been wanting to see this one for a while, as the trailer looked incredible. Glad you enjoyed it :)

takt op.Destiny eps 11 & 12 (complete)
Crescendo!
The plot was fairly straightforward at the start, go from A to B all the while fighting the aliens, but the ending was a bit bland with a twist ending and some moustache twirling bad guys instead of finishing off the alien threat.
The fights were good and the designs of the Musicarts fantastically vibrant, although the rest of the cast were standard fair.
6/10

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated
eps 19 & 20 (complete)
The truth behind the opening events and festival time.
A fun show with a varied cast. The 2 sisters, one of which is Jahy's boss and the other her landlady were my favourites. Jahy herself was annoying a lot of the time, you'd get moments were you think she's learnt something and would be a bit softer in her attitude, but then go right back to her stubborn and selfish ways, even if by the end it felt more like an act you did feel like she didn't have much character growth. Although TBF much of it is done for laughs, a once mighty person trapped in a bad situation in unfamiliar surroundings.
Art and animation were good, but pretty much the standard for this type of show.
7/10

Decided to watch a couple movies from my pile tonight:

Eureka Seven: Hi-Evolution 1
Bit confusing at the way it jumps forward and back in time. Although I believe the 2nd movie is a bit of a mess in terms of story

The Empire of Corpses
Nice artwork
