Hanamonogatari (Japanese audio) - Episodes 1-5 (Complete)

I wasn't really sure what the arc was about until I finally started it, and it was a pretty good one overall. More Kanbaru is always good. Dat car.

Space Runaway Ideon - Episodes 13 - 16

A good run of episodes with some great drama despite the series falling into a repetitive plot of the Solo Ship being chased by the latest Buff Clan cannon fodder every two episodes.

Moribito episodes 1–3

Since Kenji Kamiyama's Napping Princess is on in cinemas next week, this seemed as good a time as any to start this.

I've got my ticket booked for Wednesday, can't wait to see it.

Food Wars-Episodes 13 and 14

Owarimonogatari Season 2-Episodes 1-4

Two very strong arcs, but both strong for entirely different reasons. I loved Mayoi Hell for a very obvious reason, the return of Hachikuji, who is definitely a favourite amongst the girls, plus the visuals of hell were really great, even by Shaft standards and Araragi going back over past events in self reflection was also quite enjoyable. The second half of the arc also shed some light on the end of Tsukimonogatari, which I found to be weak, and made it very important in hindsight, which will make rewatching it interesting, and makes me think a bit better of what I consider to be one of the slightly weaker arcs. Hitagi Rendezvous was great purely on the merits of having Araragi and Senjogahara spend screen time together, which is a fairly rare occurrence after Nisemonogatari. The date was great and the whole ending was very sweet. Ougi's appearance was very ominous and I'm not sure I entirely got it, but I'm hoping the third and final arc of Season 2, Ougi Dark, will perhaps shed some light on things, no doubt making it better on the second go around.

Sailor Moon R-Episodes 35 and 36

I think I'm getting burnt out on Sailor Moon. So close to the end too.

Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu-Episode 7

The more I see of this show, the less interested I get. Ufotable's flashy visuals can only get you so far when there's so little of actual substance.

I rebelliously watched Owarimonogatari (Mayoi Hell) despite not having seen the parts unavailable to me legally.

My hero Academia episode 32

Ghost in the Shell (2017) An intriguing and often visually stunning science fiction film that takes elements from different GitS series and makes it something unique. The characters are well-cast and diverse, with Asbaek being especially great as Batou. Beat Takeshi Kitano is also a standout, superbly portraying Daisuke with that unique brand of calm badassery.

The soundtrack is also good and has some nice set pieces. The Blu Ray has a set of nice bonus features that delve into the behind the scenes of the film, showing that a lot of work and Thought went into making it.

The main flaw the film has is how the philosophical elements of the story are simplified from the original, but it doesn't ruin the film for me. I'd have also liked to have seen more of the other Section 9 members, since some of them are left underdeveloped, but they weren't featured in the original film that much. SAC thankfully changed all that.

Overall this was much better than it could have been, and a second viewing only made me appreciate its qualities further. It's not perfect, nor is it as good as the anime it takes it's story and world from, but it's pretty damn good for what it is-a well made science fiction film. A shame it likely won't get a sequel since I'd love to see more of this world and the Section 9 characters.

Your Lie in April complete
Thought I'd watch something else whilst waiting for the Tokyo Ghoul episodes to pile up and OMG I think I'm suffering from dehydration after watching that!

And what a lie, they could have spent more time together as a proper couple if either of them were more honest about their feelings, but I guess there'd be less (melo)drama in that

Sailor Moon R-Episodes 37 and 38

Owarimonogatari Season 2-Episodes 5-7 (Complete)

I'll admit, I found this arc to be fairly confusing from about the halfway mark, especially with the reveal, and it took some question asking over on the Monogatari reddit for me to come to grips with it, and even then I'm not sure I'm 100% on it. Although I still thought it was great, I think I'll enjoy it more so on rewatches, especially if watched in closer proximity to the rest of the series. Considering how complex this series can get, the time gaps in the anime production don't do it any favours.

Princess Principal-Episode 6

The singing juxtaposed against that final scene was really effective. This continues to be a spectacular series, it's quite sad that I don't really see anyone else talking about it, it's still my pick of the season by quite a large margin.

Food Wars-Episodes 15 and 16

That new OP is waaaaaaaaaaay better than the first, which I thought was kinda lacking.

I can also confirm that Princess principal is great. I hope more people give it a try as I was surprised how good it is.

Maoyu episodes 1-12 (Complete. A charming, relaxing fantasy with decent characters, action and some nice music (the ED is especially good). Another series in which I wish they'd made another season.) 3.5/5
