Young fan of anime needing advice. (Please answer!)

So, I'm a very young fan of anime, as I have been since I was about 6 (look at my profile for my age if you have to). When I was about 6 I started watching Full Metal Alchemist and loved it. At age 8 I discovered Lucky Star, age 9 TMoHS, and now, age 12, things like High School of the Dead (yes I know).

Ah. I remember when I first discovered boobs.

You ****'n kids with your iPhones and your PS Vitas. In MY day, if you wanted to look at porn, the best you had was the adult section on Newgrounds when you had the house to yourself.

I'm wanting to import the Haganai, School Days and High School DxD DVDs from America and Japan, but they haven't been rated in the UK. How can I convince my dad to let me buy them without a BBFC classification (i'm thinking of editing a page on the BBFC website to make it say that they are all 15 rated using the F12 trick).

I'm guessing you have your dad buy stuff with his debit/credit card, and you give him the money, correct?

It's not a credit card (the money comes straight out of your account and , and you can't go overdrawn. But since it's a Visa, you can still do everything normally. So like order from Amazon.com in the US and stuff.

P.S: If you're thinking of buying **** from Japan, good luck with that. Costs like £600 for a boxset. Most people with jobs can't afford that.

Seriously. I get you're getting into girls and all, but atleast balance it out with stuff that's actually good, like Bebop, Champloo, Baccano!. Or Black Lagoon. That's got Revy in it. And it's also good. Watch that.

However, since you're 12 and have minimal experience with girls, you could be negatively influenced by those shows, which can be detrimental to your relationships. However, American (and to a much lesser extent, British) shows aimed at a teenage audience such as 90210 also push ideas about relationships that aren't exactly parallel to the real world, so it isn't exclusively a Japan/Anime problem.)

Apart from the aforementioned ecchi DVDs, I'm also thinking of buying FMP? Fumoffu, DBZ, Hetalia and *cough cough* possibly Mardock Scramble. But probably not mardock scramble.

Also, speaking of importing Japanese DVDs, School Days is fairly cheap. Probably because it's complete *********.

Japanese DVD's come in at over £30 a volume for standard editions, and that isn't classed as cheap since you could get a little as a single episode on a disc (unless you've either been looking at bootlegs on ebay or the Taiwanese version which is cheaper).

I watched Urotsukidoji with my mother. I was 21 at the time, but wanted to crawl into my hand and die while the film unfolded while simultaneously trying to delete it with the power of my mind as she looked on is fascinated horror.

Oh mah gawd I am cringing for you. Just be thankful it wasn't the uncut version. I had me mother buy me a copy of Urotsukidoji when I was about 14 (too long ago...) but I had the good sense to not watch it with her, nor anyone else for that matter.

Solid choices. Have you already seen DBZ before? If not, I will say, it's kinda a overhyped show, and mostly the popularity comes from people watching it when they were kids.

I don't think those "weirdos" are exclusive to /a/, not by a long shot. Besides, a dakimakura is nothing to be ashamed of, unless you're the kind of person who shoves it in someone's face without a shred of decorum. That aside, I don't think you realise just how comfortable it is to sleep with a bolster pillow, especially since the better quality pillows trap heat. Case in point, I no longer need to fill a hot water bottle every night in the dead of winter.

Aw yeah, if it's anything like a folded up duvet, it's comfy as hell.

Ok, I won't. But wouldn't it be better to have a collection with exclusively stuff you like? I get some people have a "completionist" mentality, but wouldn't it be better to have it be YOUR collection, rather than a "library" type thing?

I agree. Nothing wrong with a long pillow (sometimes have a long one behind me in winter, set along the wall. Very cosy).

Paradox is right about collecting. I was like yourself once. I started collecting in earnest from 16+ (I'm 29 now) and when I went to Uni, some of my allowance went the anime way. Things went nuts when I got a job though and now I have 300+ titles ( I must update my anime list).

Hindsight is beautiful but with limited options and a near obsession (300 + titles is nothing compared to some) at a time when volumes (6-8 per series) were £20 and there was no Crunchy Rolls about, things got very expensive very quick (£2000+ dropped into my collection isn't beyond comprehension).

I have also suffered severe burnouts (I'm still in a take it or leave it state of mind with anime at the minute). With this I must advise you to enjoy all anime, but be mindful of what you like and want. I know tastes change and now is the best time to find yourself, but try sticking with those you like and complete series you have before diversifying too much and getting lost in what is an incredibly vast (and wonderful) world of anime. Do what others have advised, especially with Crunchy Roll, and you'll save yourself a ton of time and money.

To give you some practical advice If you are going to import be very careful. Prices are rarely cheap. Individual items will usually end up more expensive when imported thanks to VAT and Duty. If you are saving your income and buying a number of DVD's (4-6) the values become more reasonable (there's a bit of homework for you).

If you are on Amazon, Ebay or any anime site that offers DVD's, especially ones not currently available in this country, at a lower than RRP price, be wary. Many of these DVD's will be knock offs with product info usually saying region free/region 0; 1-3 discs with a total of 26 or more episodes; made in Malaysia, China, Hong Kong or Taiwan. The legitimate DVD's sold at low prices (usually imported DVD's) will usually have exorbitant delivery. This is a hurdle I face often as I tend to import older DVD's that relate to series that are incomplete over here or have been Out Of Print for sometime.

As for older and Out of Print titles (if any take yout fancy) be prepared to shop around as many market sites will charge very daft amounts (for example: http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_st?key ... ort=-price).

The best sites for imorting are United Publications (UK based with UK prices) and Rightstuf (better choice but you must pay to import titles from here.)

For Uk Based titles Anime-on-Line is excellent with a £9.99 deal of the week every Friday.

Talking of figures one of the notable sites (this is going to annoy a lot of people and some mods) is Tokyo Toys. As a word of warning, approach these people as an absolute late resort as a number of there products, mainly plushies and keyrings are bootleg. Their models appear legit tough. (there is a bit of a boycott though due to their blatant sale of bootlegs).

Golden Rule: honesty is the best policy. My parents were pretty relaxed on age limits and weren't too worried about what I watched and played. They weren't interested in what I watched and played themselves and generally trusted me under the proviso I knew the difference, behaved myself in the company of others, spoke no bad laguage, replicated nothing and did my homework first.

I don't think anyone here is in a position to say whether or not Girls Bravo is suitable for you. Personally, I don't give a damn what you watch, but your parents obviously do. Surely asking them these sorts of questions would be a better use of your time?

Kind of moot then. AntAce is right though. If your parents have given you the freedom then It's up to you. The only thing to be mindful of is that until you are 18 your parents will have the final say and if you go against your parents, the law will have the final say.

I suppose the point is moot as you've ordered it already but it's a step down from Sekirei in terms of nudity but it definitely ranks higher than any of those for ecchi type events. Violence wise there's nothing above slap stick really.

Haganai is rated M for "Sexual violence, sexual references and animated nudity"
High School DxD is rated MA15+ for "Strong sexual references, animated nudity and violence"

My mum goes waaaaay too far with the whole age ratings thing. If it's a 15 due to the violence, it's acceptable, but if it's due to the sexual content, then she won't let me anywhere near it.

I asked about putting the R4 release of Azumanga Daioh on my Christmas list (rated MA15+ in Australia) even though its rated PG/12 in the UK and she said
