After expanding into the largely uncharted territory of light novel publication last year with their "Yen On" imprint and hit titles such as Sword Art Online and A Certain Magical Index, the English-language manga publisher Yen Press has once again expanded on the number of light novel titles they will be releasing throughout this new year, as today, they took to Twitter to announce three brand new additions to Yen On! imprint, as well as some new manga licenses.

Shiden Kanzaki and Saki Ukai's dystopian science fiction series Black Bullet is the first of the new announcements; with Yen Press obtaining the rights to publish both the original light novel series and Hon Morino's manga adaptation. A television anime adaptation of the novels aired in Japan last year.

The next light novel series to be licensed for an English-language release is Ryohgo Narita's Durarara!, which will begin publication in July. Featuring the illustrations by Suzuhito Yasuda, this supernatural urban fantasy about criss-crossing lives in Ikebukuro has already seen a manga adaptation that was also released by Yen Press and a television anime series, with its sequel set to begin airing tomorrow.

The third and final addition to the "Yen On" imprint is another series that recently received the animation treatment; Gakuto Mikumo's supernatural series Strike the Blood. Yen Press will be releasing both the original novel series, as well as the manga adaptation.

Moving on from light novels, their new manga acquisitions are dominated by a single franchise: Magica Quartet's Puella Magi Madoka Magica series. First, they will be releasing afro's 4-koma comedy spin-off Puella Magi Homura Tamura, as well as Golden Pe Done's two volume series Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Homura's Revenge.

When it comes to the three volumes of Hanokage's adaptation of Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie: Rebellion though, Yen Press have revealed places to release the series as a single, hardcover omnibus edition!

Outside of Madoka Magica, Yen Press will also be releasing Rust Buster, a six-chapter long series from Yana Toboso, who is best known for her black comedy series Black Butler. In a school where the student population consists of both humans and vampires, the vampire son of the headmaster is tasked with protecting a human boy who can forsee when the end of the world will be. When two moons suddenly appear in the sky, the pair have to work together in order to save the one world where their races can co-exist.

Will you be buying any of these upcoming titles?

Re: Yen Press Reveals New Manga And Light Novel Licenses: Du

I'm definitely going to pick up Durarara. I've gotten so behind with all the Madoka spin-offs though; the hardcover Rebellion omnibus sounds nice though.

Re: Yen Press Reveals New Manga And Light Novel Licenses: Du

Durarara's a definite for me. Hopefully this makes it more likely for Baccano to get and English release (Probably not but I can dream). I might get Black Bullet and Strike the Blood. The Madoka spin-offs are unlikely since there are so many of them.

Re: Yen Press Reveals New Manga And Light Novel Licenses: Du

Yaaay Rust Blaster. I'd have preferred Baccano over DRRR but hopefully it will be a success and lead to more.

Re: Yen Press Reveals New Manga And Light Novel Licenses: Du

I would of also preferred Baccano over Durarara, but I will definitely purchase it regardless.

Re: Yen Press Reveals New Manga And Light Novel Licenses: Du

YES! Durarara!!. That's one series we can tick off from the list. Now for Baccano!, Monogatari, Shana, High School DxD, Haganai and many many more.

Will also get Black Bullet and Strike the Blood.

Re: Yen Press Reveals New Manga And Light Novel Licenses: Du

Yeah i'll be buying all the light novels and i hope for Highschool DxD soon... After all the manga is being released...

Durarara interests me quite a lot anyway

Re: Yen Press Reveals New Manga And Light Novel Licenses: Du

Will definitely be picking Durarara! now only if they released Baccano aswell

Re: Yen Press Reveals New Manga And Light Novel Licenses: Du

I've started getting fearful when I see Yen licensing posts  just thinking 'Oh no! What am I going to end up buying?'. Strangely enough, I'm not that interested in any this time round. Maybe that's a good thing since they have so many other series that are out and due to come out that I'm in invested in.

I get excited for the exact same reason.

Re: Yen Press Reveals New Manga And Light Novel Licenses: Du

It's a wonderful mix of excitement and fear! I love the treatment they give their series and a lot of my favourites go to them. I fear for my money :p

Re: Yen Press Reveals New Manga And Light Novel Licenses: Du

Wow. I didn't know that was happening. I went from reading the OP, getting overjoyed only to reading that and getting disappointed. Those last couple of minutes were an emotional roller-coaster.

Re: Yen Press Reveals New Manga And Light Novel Licenses: Du

I'll be getting Durarara, had it on my wish list since last year when the licence was first announced.

Re: Yen Press Reveals New Manga And Light Novel Licenses: Du

I think the only non light novel series i buy from Yen Press is Ubel Blatt. I will be definitely picking up the Durarara novels. It completely slipped my mind the first was coming soon.

I just wish they would pick up the Slayers and Full Metal Panic novels.
Futile even asking for Lodoss. Viz will never touch it and i dont think anyone else is allowed to go for it. Those are my 3 most wants.

Re: Yen Press Reveals New Manga And Light Novel Licenses: Du

Huh, didn't realize Yen Press was moving in so heavily.

Strike the Blood isn't terrible, for anyone wondering. It's not good, but it's not terrible.

Re: Yen Press Reveals New Manga And Light Novel Licenses: Du

No immediate plans for any of those titles but I'm glad to see the light novel line is doing well enough that they can keep expanding the line up.

It was only a few years ago that companies publishing light novels all seemed to withdraw from the market claiming they were too niche.

Re: Yen Press Reveals New Manga And Light Novel Licenses: Du

Damn, that kinda sucks - the hardcover book sounded properly awesome, and looked like it'd be more affordable than buying singles too.
