Why do YOU like visiting AUKN?

I came because I wanted to know more about anime/manga, and watching Ryo visit the forums for about 1/2 a year tempted me to join too. A good source to find things out is within a community, isn't it? :)

My typical activities is roaming through the forums (which can take just 5-10min to scan, but much longer if I want to post) and keeping in touch of the group. I admit, I'm not the most social of the group, but I feel comfortable with the goings on of the forums.
I have posted artwork and contributed to forum games and random chat, but I've recently had less time due to coursework. I'll hopefully get back to both of these later on.

I originally joined because I wanted to talk with others who liked Anime, and see if I could make some RL friends along the way. Unfortunately like chaos the later is still yet to happen, though I did make a very good online friend!

I often miss some of the old members who populated the forum when I first joined up, and can't help but wonder what happened to them. I also often go on long hiatuses from the forum myself, but this is still the only forum I have regularly used.
I like that there is a place for UK fans, that it is small and personal, and that I don't get flamed by a thousand people if I voice my opinion or say something a little stupid.

Why do i like coming to AUKN..good question. At first it was like many, i was new to anime and manga, so i wanted to learn more here, and i have, a lot more. Now i come here because, i guess you could say it'd feel weird not coming onto the site, i've been here so long now, its kinda hard to imagine not being here. Also its good for a decent conversation and discussion too, always has been really, even if we had that decline in posts for a while.

@Charter: I'm pretty much like you when it comes to wondering what happened to the other members of the forum here, the only one i really know about is Mangaminx, as i still talk to her on occasion on msn. Bar that, everyone else just seemed to vanish into thin air, and its a bit of a shame.

I've never actually met anyone from the forums since i've been here actually either now i think on it, i've had a couple of chances, but thats it. It'd be interesting to meet some from here though i will admit, specially since a lot of people can be very different in person to what they are like online.

Hey, if several of us want some / more RL friends then we should definately try and have some kind of meet at some point.

Let's not all disappear like some of the old members. Or this awesome car.

We could plot all intersted members' locations on a map and work out the geographic centre. :p

Failing that, Principality of Sealand?

Aion claimed in another thread that "nobody likes anybody here", but that's not true. I like almost everyone.
Echoed. That's not my experience here at all either. If we look at it in terms of percentages, I get on with a far larger percentage of people here than I do in any other social grouping online or IRL.

As I frequently say, "hands around the campfire!" to avoid petty fights, and put it all aside. I'd say something if the fights were for genuine reasons, but from what I've seen, it's childish, and downright silly. Sometimes I'm reminded of a bunch of elderly ladies sitting behind a veiled window looking out into the street, bitching about everyone walking past. And then, as soon as a lady leaves the group, turns to bitch about them.
I don't think any of it's premeditated or without provocation though. And it's better to tackle people head on than bitch about them behind their backs, which I don't think goes on here much at all actually. Nine times out of ten if someone's being on harrassed here then they were the unreasonable party in the first place. I still think that's a fair approach compared to the chavs on the corner who target people for abuse for no reason at all. That and, we're also childish and don't like to lose. ;)

I'll probably meet some people at the London expo, probably the October one, as I wont be able to make the next one, shame you lot don't live in the Midlands, it's easier to get to that one for me :p

So does that mean you're not going to the May one? : (

I like AUKN because it's the first Forum I joined as well as my homepage. It's not much of a reason, but it feels like I've missed something if I leave the computer without visiting AUKN atleast once. Also, you guys aren't half bad either.

I'm happy to do the meetup too.

Let's do it in Wales- you can all experience the TRUE country as Dracos, Maltos and I guide you. (I would have put Spyro, but I break the Welsh trend of 'os' at the end of my name. What'll I do, eh?)

Become Spyros.

It might make you sound more Greek than Welsh mind...

.... That's so badass.

"I AM THE MIGHTY SPYROS"

I like visiting to get UK Anime News :D Plus keeping track of sales and offers, and to see what people are selling :)

On the idea of a meetup, I think Brum and Manc would be easy places to access. If we went with a Manchester meet, I would happily organise, as I run meets there already and now good places to go. Plus during this summer there is the Video Games exhibition (indeed not as relevant as the Anime Exhibition from last year, but it'll still be interesting). Just a thought anyways :)

I'm afraid it does, I would have like to go but doesn't look like my leg will be able to take all the walking before then.. Everyone should go to the October one though, we could meet up somewhere there. =)

Originally I was here because I was into anime, and finding out new stuff and largely wanted to share. That worked out fine until my general interest declined, and everything I was interested in seeing released into this specific market had, or was never going to, appear. The anime boom is over, and though that means general market equality, that just makes UK anime sites a little redundant in a way. They've become a little low on the food chain, since 99% of all news is simply available through other sources, even if they're American ones.

So then it all boils down to the community, but I don't really feel so interested in net communities as much these days :/ But since I'm here, my attitude is: why not put in the occasional hopelessly unoriginal complaint about Advent Children?

Birmingham is still going to be in the middle, so it sounds pretty much decided to me. ^_^

(UK Site - slow news + no Americans posting) > (US site + quick news - Americans posting).

@ bolded, i have to disagree, i could easily find an american anime site, but its highly unlikely it would give me news on the latest anime and manga releases in the UK, or allow me to see what other people in the UK think of anime shows and stuff.

True... But I still say Wales 8)

Cardiff/Newport ftw.

The way I see it, most people don't like each other on here. Some put up fronts to avoid arguments and make "friends" but it's just a polite act. The real people don't show through when they act to avoid problems, or try to be more friendly than they really are to make up for a lack of social skills. Ironically, despite being one of the most hated posters on here, CG is, if nothing else, one of the most honest - he doesn't try to hide anything, instead attacking any opinion he disagrees with, showing zero respect.

There aren't any groups on AUKN. On most smaller forums users group together, thinking and acting in one way, and those groups act aggressively against anything foreign. On AUKN that isn't the case because there isn't any real bond connecting any of the members, and most posters opinions are diverse. That's why there isn't much room for friendly discussion - the diversity in opinions results in most clashing indivudually or just ignoring each other. If the forum had more posters than groups of "friends" would form, but with so few on AUKN that hasn't occurred.

I'm not sure what's worse; a forced show of respect in order to fit in or a total lack of respect. Either way, there's little in the way of truth hidden behind most internet posters actions and it's often impossible to get a feel for the real person. That's why internet friendships are worthless and forums are only worth posting on to express opinions that have no place with people in the flesh because of a lack of interest.

Without being all soft, mushy and philisophical about it. AUKN is a habit I can't quit, it was one of the first five forums I joined IIRC and after a while it just became a regular event.

I don't even know why I stay, some of you piss me right off, and others not so much. I CAN'T QUIT YOU, AUKN.
