Where to Buy Anime in the UK (was Anime Online Retailers)

Can I just try either of those stores anyway? They probably have at least a couple of DVDs left in their warehouses. And if they don't have it , then it's off to the Used market.

Speaking of which, does anyone know of a good used DVD retailer?

EDIT: Also, from the comments I'm getting, I might as well use The Hut.

Stock levels for both sites is 10 days, thats code for we don't have it in our warehouse but we think we can order it in easy enough.

Last I recall Zavvi is apart of The Hut Group.
Zavvi and The Hut are indeed one and the same, and thus equally useless. You may as well place an order at one of them, but don't expect to actually receive anything.
Bad experience with them?

I've had more problems with play.com than both The Hut and Zavvi in the past.

I've never shopped with Sendit, it seems like one of those shops which I will never used again so i'll save myself the effort of registering.

Well then in that case, third cheapest seller is sendit.com. How good are they with DVD sales?

At risk of increasing your stress, they're also in the same group, IIRC, so they'll be pulling from the same supplies. I've had success ordering from them but I only tried items in plentiful stock, nothing specialist.

Don't know how long it's been around (can't recall seeing it a few weeks back) but apparently HMV now have a click and collect service.

Apparently the recent price changes (disasters?) have played a part in allowing it to happen.

I remember them announcing a service where you order online a pick up in store years ago, don't know what happened to it.

It has recently been added to HMV's site (not that I have used it yet).

Those are totally, definitely bootlegs. The prices, the fact the DVDs are all region free and that a quick Google reveals many dissatisfied customers (some of whom say they never even received anything) make ordering from them sound like a bad idea.

I think certain parties might be interested in the fact that it says "We only carry genuine, licensed Anime DVDs. All of our DVDs are genuine copies from Licensed manufacturers" at the bottom of the site, which is a blatant lie, as if it's not bad enough they're selling bootlegs in the first place. Anyone know who to report them to?

Generally if you have even the tiniest suspicion a place is dodgy when it comes to the internet, they probably are.

Well, following on from last week, I ended up buying Cowboy Bebop from Tesco Entertainment. It's been a week since I've ordered and I'm expecting it to be dispatched around this week. What's the chance of Tesco actually delivering the product?

Fairly low, I'd say. The Cowboy Bebop Anime Legends set appears to be out of print, so if a store doesn't have any on hand it's unlikely they'll be able to source copies. But you never know - someone might find a handful of sets behind a sofa somewhere, or maybe Beez plan to reprint the series it still owns the licenses for.

I emailed Tesco about it and they told me that yes, they do have to get the DVD from Beez. So it's less whether or not it's going to be dispatched in two weeks and more 'Does Beez still have Cowboy Bebop in stock?'

Though, if Tesco are unable to obtain a copy, I do have alternatives on where to get the Boxset.

They only retained their Gundam licenses and while I've only seen one volume of Bebop and one episode of Gundam, I'm pretty sure they aren't connected.

Wait a minute. I thought Sunrise got the license for Gundam back, they didn't all of a sudden? And if so, would that mean Beez is pretty much now selling Gundam and Gundam only?

Another important question surrounds the future of Beez Entertainment - with an official statement on the way, Andrew confirmed that Bandai will continue to hold onto the rights for all Gundam-based series, but that all other properties have seen their rights return to the original licensors. With that in mind, work is currently underway to ensure that as many of these licenses as possible go to new homes with a view of ensuring that they remain available in the UK, possibly in an upgraded form in the case of Code Geass as one particular example.
