Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest (Light Novel) - Chapter 6 (via Vol. 2)

I have begun reading the second volume. There are 4 chapters, an epilogue, an extra chapter and 6 bonus short stories included in this volume. The first chapter, which has 110 pages of content, covers a lot of events for Hajime.

These events include:
  • Witnessing the world outside the labyrinth for the first time in months, arriving at the desert.
  • He uses his version of a motorcycle to travel around and bumps into a bunny girl called Shea, who asks for his help (and begs a lot).
  • Eventually, Hajime caves in and she takes him to where her tribe is residing as they were on the run.
  • He rescues them and they guide him to the path of the Haltina Woods where the next labyrinth is located.
  • Hajime also ends up killing soldiers instantly who belonged to the Empire (the same Empire that was testing Kouki's strength in the previous volume). The Empire was hunting down the tribe to capture them as slaves, hence why the tribe landed in the desert.
  • Beastmen stop Hajime & co. along the way, as they were approaching their territory but eventually Hajime was able to convince them to avoid any further violence using his intimidation skills.
  • An elder elf approaches Hajime and escorts him to their city where various beastmen reside where they go over whether or not he's allowed to venture into the Great Tree. Prior to the city, Hajime had to provide proof that he did complete the Oscar Labyrinth.
  • The elders of the woods remind Hajime that Shea's tribe were criminals and had to be executed (this is because Shea is a unique bunny girl who has different hair colour and can manipulate mana so the tribe kept her in secret).
  • Hajime keeps Shea's promise to protect them and the elder elf offers a solution to avoid executing them - because beastmen can't necessarily survive outside the woods well due to the humans and how the Empire capture beastmen to become their slaves, the elder elf suggests that the tribe will become Hajime's slave and therefore be declared 'dead' the moment they leave the city (they're not really his slave, but basically pretending so that the tribe can live on outside of the city's presence).
  • Random note: There's a lot of racism between the gods/humans and the beastmen/demi-humans basically.

UPDATE 11pm:

Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest (Light Novel) - Chapter 7 (via Vol. 2)

I was bored so I decided to read the next chapter, which has 103 pages of content. This one is a mixture of things that are both story relevant and some minor side-story related content.

These events include:
  • After leaving the forest city, Hajime has to wait 10 days before venturing into the Great Tree to locate the labyrinth.
  • During these 10 days, Hajime trains Shea and her tribe in order for them to survive on their own and also fight.
  • Shea trains with Yue while the tribe trains with Hajime.
  • Shea was able to win her duel with Yue and thus gets her approval to join Hajime & Yue's journey. Hajime actually rejects Shea's request at first but was persuaded by Yue not long after.
  • The tribe test their skills against a group of Beastmen and they pretty much win, though Hajime and Shea stop them before they end up going full bloodlust like the soldiers were against their people.
  • Hajime & co. find the Great Tree and locate the Forest Labyrinth, however, the Labyrinth requires 4 of the 7 to be completed before this one can be opened.
  • Hajime, Yue and Shea depart from the forest and Shea's tribe, and discover a village.
  • Hajime joins the Adventurer's guild and was able to earn enough money to have the group stay at an inn and buy various items for their journey.
  • After staying at an inn and the girls getting new clothes, Hajime gives Shea a new Warhammer and the group start preparing their trip down back to the Desert to locate a rumoured Labyrinth within the area.

Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest (Light Novel) - Chapter 8 (via Vol. 2)

Well, this was a rather amusing chapter.

These events include:
  • A brief "meanwhile" scene where we have Kouki and Kaori's group venture the 70th floor of Oscar's Labyrinth (this occurs at the same time as Hajime training the Rabbit Tribe in the woods).
  • Hajime, Yue and Shea are back in the desert and they manage to find the entrance to the rumoured Labyrinth after spending days checking every part of the canyon.
  • The Labyrinth is known as the Miledi Reisen Labyrinth and it's not like the Oscar Orcus Labyrinth where it had 200 floors in a tower design. This Labyrinth is basically a maze-trap filled design and the group has to try and make their way through avoiding traps while also dealing with their mana being at a weaker state (in other words, they can't fight using magic at full strength).
  • They managed to reach the end of their path, except they didn't and landed back to the very beginning of the room. This is because the creator of the labyrinth designed the dungeon so that it changes, in other words, it's like the video games you find where the levels are procedurally randomly generated. The creator also places messages around the rooms mocking whoever ventures through them.

UPDATE 10pm:
Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest (Light Novel) - Chapter 9 & Epilogue (via Vol. 2 ~ Volume Completed)

Another interesting chapter and ends on a good note too.

These events include:
  • A brief "meanwhile" scene with the rest of the classmates who were "traumatised" over Hajime's fate. Yuka Sonobe, the girl Hajime saved in the first chapter before he went towards using his skills against the Behemoth, broke out of her trauma shell by wanting to go out and actually help fight. Her friends tag along with her.
  • During this scene, Yuka also learns that the teacher Aiko is going to the lake town of Ur for 2-3 weeks. Not long after, Aiko allows Yuka and eventually the rest of the classmates who weren't part of the hero group to join her.
  • Back in the Reisen Labyrinth, Hajime & co. spent a week dealing with the dungeon where they ended up back to the start 7 times lol.
  • Eventually, they try again and after being chased by Golems they finally reached a new room which turns out to be the final area for them to deal with - but the final boss is none other than Miledi Reisen herself as a Golem.
  • They defeat her and were given the ring that proves they've beaten the labyrinth. They also attempted to take note of the locations of the remaining labyrinths (they already know of the one in the woods and the volcano, so there were 3 unknown).
  • They got flushed away like a toilet, which was the farewell joke of the labyrinth's creator. They eventually arrive in an area near the Brooke village, where Sona (Masaka Inn owner's daughter) and Crystabel (the muscley monster-like person who helped provide clothes for Shea and Yue) offered them a ride back to Brooke.
And last but not least in the Epilogue, there's a mini-scene near the lake town of Ur of someone being given the chance to become a hero and it looks like their task is to perform an assassination against a "goddess and her bodyguards". My guess is that they're going to try and kill Aiko and her group as they are approaching the town soon.

So far I've played the game (Not the original, the remake) and watched the anime. The Manga seems the most graphical so far, rather enjoying it

Lazy Dungeon Master (LN) vol 6
Honestly was a bit eh at the start of this volume and it did have some problems throughout, but the new character was quite strong and this did feel quite different to most of the previous volumes so overall positive. I do enjoy this series for the most part.

...I'm only a couple of weeks behind on the simulpubs. I WILL CATCH BACK UP.

Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill (LN) vol 2
Yeah, didn't particularly pick up. It's not bad or anything, just doesn't really do enough to hold my interest. Dropped.

Just finished Neo Parasyte M

Another really good collection of one shot stories inspired by the Parasyte manga. One of teh highlights being:

That's rights Lucy from Fairy Tail gets Migi attached to her arm and madness ensues!

Somehow feels surprisingly laid back, considering how the series is only 3 volumes in total. Could have easily been a volume 8 or 9 in most other LNs. Still good, but yeah.

Outbreak Company (LN) vol 10
The last couple of volumes have offered something a bit different. The ruminations on the advantages and disadvantages of technology are also quite interesting. I'll almost definitely see it through to the end now at any rate.

Sneaky Red Volume 1

While I think that futekiya have done a good job translating the wonderful (not biased here, honest!) Haruko Kumota's BL collection, I'm frankly baffled by some of Sneaky Red. I'm wondering if it's the translation? I'm really interested to know what you think. (I notice that they don't name or credit the translators so far, which is a shame.)

Yeah I must admit I was struggling with the second to last chapter because it almost sounded like the two main characters were brothers...? I feel like that’s true and I missed something earlier or it’s just wrong. Even beyond that though there have certainly been some oddities, so I hope this is teething issues and gets better as futekiya go on...
