Here's a bit of a dumb question for you. Do you have enough of an understanding of Japanese to watch JP Subless BDs or do you just buy them to support the source?

I know a few on here import the Japanese releases and I have been curious, so sorry I got to ask. Some of you guys actually buy Japanese subless Blu-rays with little to no understanding of Japanese just to support the company?

I'm now curious about this too; do such people exist? I mean, I buy things to support the industry but only when I'm getting something out of the deal too; even back when I was a teen and buying raw stuff I couldn't understand it was with the intention of one day deciphering it (and enjoying it on a strictly superficial level in the meantime).

You sometimes get people on here saying that they'll knowingly buy the latest PAL-converted glitched release from Manga UK to support the UK industry, which always seems a bit mad - except as they're only paying £10 or so to do that it seems more plausible.

Having said that, if I was super-rich and could actually sway the process myself, I might become the type of person who would buy zillions of copies of something from Japan to try to improve the chance of a sequel :D

There are definitely series I buy to support the creators without any real intention of rewatching the BDs, but I don't know if that is invalidated by the fact that I could watch and understand them if I wanted to.

I don't understand Japanaese (aside from the odd dozen words) and have a Japanese, unsubtitled copy of the 8th Pokémon movie on DVD. I basically bought it because I had an obsession with that movie.

I tend to import more video games though. I also own Japanese copies of Pokémon Red, Ruby, Ranger, Pearl, Platinum, SoulSilver, White and White 2 - but aside from the first two, I mainly bought them because I was too impatient to just wait for localised releases (which I bought anyway). I only bought Ruby so that I could transfer Pokémon over to the other games and Red because it was super cheap. With Pokémon games though, when you've been playing them for fifteen years, playing through a game is almost like muscle memory.
The only Japanese non-Pokémon video game I've purchased (as in, not a free demo) is the 3DS Attack On Titan game because the gameplay requires very little knowledge of the language. I am considering buying a Japanese copy Yo-Kai Watch though, considering how much of a phenomenon it's become, as well as Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson because the Japanese limited edition contains some pretty cool extras.

The only subless BD I've ever bought was the Index Movie. It's much easier to extract subs from a fansub and re-time it properly to a single movie than it is for multiple episodes, hence why I'm not really prepared to buy Subless volumes of a TV series. I do own/have played some Japanese games though despite being un-able to read anything beyond basic text. I've still got my Japanese copy of Persona 4: The Golden somewhere, and the only thing I can really read in that are the non Kanji attack/Persona names.

Received today, from DeVoteD DVD:
Attack On Titan: Collection 1 (Blu-ray)
Got this too. Pleased to report that the case didn't get smashed this time :p (Jiffy bag was noticeably larger).

Incidentally, even the standard edition comes with the Notes from Beyond the Wall booklet, further making a mockery of MangaUK's so-called Collector's Edition.

A whole bunch of manga arrived today!
The Betrayal Knows My Name Volume 1-2
D.Gray-Man Volume 17-23
Blue Exorcist Volume 9-11
Zero's Familiar Volume 6-7
My Love Story!! Volume 1

Also, The Familiar of Zero DVD.

The first volume of The Betrayal Knows My Name was quite scuffed when it arrived, so I contacted the seller I bought it from and they were really excellent! They're sending me out a new copy :)
