That wasn't the 8bitdo ultimate 2C wireless controller I was intending on getting as I'd originally pre-ordered the mint version that was listed on Amazon last month, but after checking on Saturday only to find it was marked as temporarily out of stock while other variants were listed as in stock I started to worry and by Sunday evening there was no improvement on the status of it actually changing so I cancelled that order and between the purple and peach versions (which were the only ones in stock) the peach version won out.

2024 HAUL - OCTOBER CHAPTER: BATCH #3

Have today off work due to working the past weekend but in return we have a few more items arrive recently.

PS5 Haul 6 - Visions of Mana.jpg

Two more games for the collection.

First up we have a classic PS1 JRPG receiving a HD remaster a few years ago by Square Enix with SaGa Frontier, originally released in 1997 and was not released in Europe back in the day. SaGa is an odd franchise because of its non-linear style of gameplay where you can choose between different characters and play how you want it to go. There is a linear story but a lot of options. I have also heard the difficulty can be pretty tough at parts but this remaster does support 2x speed like Final Fantasy's remasters have. Similarly to Chrono Cross, the remaster's physical release was only available in Asia but it supports English which is nice.

Next we have the latest Atlus JRPG from the developers of Persona 3-5 with Metaphor: ReFantazio. My pre-order was actually delayed due to stock issues from The Game Collection but in return I received a £10 discount voucher that I put towards Ys X. Metaphor is a game that I've honestly kept blind towards to go in with not knowing much as I found that learning more about the game can sometimes spoil the experience, but I'm glad that its done well in reviews and I am aware its as challenging as Shin Megami Tensei than Persona which is fine.

J-Horror Rising - 08A.jpg

This was a surprise to find arrive a week early than its expected release date. Arriving from Terracotta is Arrow Video's new limited edition box set called J-Horror Rising, which features seven Japanese films from six directors. You can view more photos & specs on my blog.

The films included are Shunichi Nagasaki's 1999 film Shikoku (死国), Toshiyuki Mizutani's 2000 film Isola: Multiple Personality Girl (ISOLA 多重人格少女), Masato Harada's 2001 film Inugami (狗神), Ten Shimoyama's 2001 film St. John’s Wort (弟切草), Kōji Shiraishi's 2007 film Carved: The Slit-Mouthed Woman (口裂け女), Takashi Komatsu's 2000 film Persona (仮面学園) and Kōji Shiraishi's 2005 film Noroi: The Curse (ノロイ).

Always neat to have more slightly modern Japanese horror films given we already have various classics from different distributors or the most common ones already released in either Blu-ray or in 4K. There's still more left to be rescued or brought over to the UK so I'm curious to see if Arrow will plan more box sets like this in the future.

Today's arrivals. Radiance recently found some OOP stuff during their warehouse move, and offered them up for sale (I got Planet of the Vampires) but some lucky orders were getting some even more limited things added to their orders, and I got a copy of Welcome to the Dollhouse. Not sure if it's something I'd normally go for, but hey, free is free.

French cinema is also not something I'd normally go for, but couldn't really say no to a £15 copy of the Jean-Pierre Mocky set.

Slime Movie Scarlet Bond.
Yandere Dark Elf Vol 1, the plot sounded fun.
The Japanese Porn Industry Unmasked by Kaho Shibuya.
I wasn't aware she was an AV actress but I knew she did a perfect Lucoa from Dragon Maid.
This sounded an interesting read and it is.

I had a few packages all at once today.

Firstly, I received MVM's deal of the week for this week, which is Accel World. Bit of a punt, but it seemed interesting.

Then, a couple of Arrow pre-orders direct from Arrow themselves, that I was quite excited about when they were announced: Trick 'r Treat 4K, which I've never actually seen before but always seems to be praised as one of the better horror films. I also received J-Horror Rising; this was purchased mainly for Noroi: The Curse (2005), but I'm interested to watch the other films too.

And finally. My first ever Crunchyroll US order via Stackry arrived today as well. The English dub of the original Beyblade series. While the English dub edits and changes more than a few things, this is pure nostalgia for me - additionally, the English soundtrack for a children's show about spinning tops has no business being this good! Glad to nab these for a normal price whilst I can.

All in all, Stackry was a pretty smooth process, shipping was reasonable, and arrived within the delivery estimate. No 20% VAT to pay either, which was a bonus!
