US Region Free Blu-rays

I am going to sound really smug now, and for that I ask your forgiveness, but ever since I bought my region-free Oppo blu-ray player the region code of a blu-ray disc has ceased to be a factor in my decision-making process for purchasing an anime blu-ray.

Sorry, but I just had to say that.

Eh, there's quite a lot of us here who have multi-region BD players, myself included. To be honest, buying my beloved BDX3200 was the best decision I've made.
This is purely just for those who can only buy/play region B discs so they know what is available to them.

Can someone please explain to me why 1080i is bad?. I honestly don't know the difference between 1080i and 1080p
To be blunt, interlacing makes things look ****, especially in motion. Go and watch a DVD on your PC using your monitor and it should be evident why it's bad.
The annoying thing is that the source material for these shows is 1080p to begin with, so we're just getting ****** video, and that's not the only problem either. These 1080i Sentai releases also suffer from bad compression and aliasing issues which are not in the original Japanese video - there's definitely something going on between Sentai and certain licensors - some people even suggest that Sentai may actually be getting the TV masters to work with rather than gimped Blu-ray masters.

Just looking through the list and Strike Witches Season 1 is there, but according to AnimeBlurayUK it's region locked. I know the cover states A, but has someone actually tested it on a B only player.

I have it and can confirm it works fine on my region B Blu-ray player and PS3.

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 has been released now, I have seen a few updates on YouTube, people picking it up. But no one has confirmed is its Region Free yet?
It says A on the case but wonder if it will work on region B as well.
Cheers

It'll probably work the same way as most sentai BD releases, as long as the ability to select titles manually is in that one (since it's the first BD release from Maiden Japan and I can't be that sure if they'd be done the same way even the two companies do have a distributor in common).

Anyone know if this will be Region A&B like the other Sekirei titles? - https://www.up1.co.uk/Details/S2956
I won't say 100% yes yet, but usually all Funi do with these complete sets is take the same discs and repackage them. It wouldn't be worth paying massive amounts re-authoring the discs just to lock us out.

Oh! That does make sense. I'll sit and wait for some form of confirmation JUST to be sure. Thank you :]

I have been reading posts on blu-ray.com, and somebody posted back covers for certain series.
I can confirm Sekirei will be A+B. Also Fairy Tail collection 1 & 2 will be repackaged, and thus be A+B. ^_^

Of course that is assuming they haven't made a mistake on the cover art, but that doesn't happen that much IIRC. :)

Looking to pick up the FUNi releases of Shakugan no Shana Final from UP1 - I have a region free DVD player, but does anyone know for sure what the coding of the BD's is? I have a Sony Region B player, so was hoping the BD's might be A&B? Cheers :)

I have all of Funi's Shana releases and every single one is locked. (Movie/Season 2/OVAs/Final)
