I agree with you there, that kind of cover is not exactly going to enhance anime fans reputations.

True, true, but I find it hard to change a lot of peoples preconceptions so maybe it'll have little impact. Plus sooner or later as an Anime fan you have to take something to the counter that might raise an eyebrow or two.

As a reversible cover or other artwork insert, it would be fine...it's just it being on the front cover. Not to mention, I can just see people raising eyebrows when they see it say, in a HMV (I heard they recently made deals to get new stock. Dunno if that includes MangaUK though).

To be honest, I think the most embarrassing thing I've ever bought was Project Rub for the Nintendo DS, which my step-dad picked up for me...and he read the back of the box...it was written to sound dirty and well xD. I bought Strike Witches online mainly to avoid the awkwardness.

Wish High School of the Dead had a erm...less questionable cover xD
It certainly is eye grabbing, but not something i'd like a friend/GF/family member pulling out....
Bingo. I'd be tempted to buy the original BD release and pick up the OVA at Expo, but I imagine they'll be using that same cover too.
It would be a nice image to possibly have as a reversible or other kind of insert, but not as a front cover.
I don't really get this. Anyone of any gender or relationship to me who might have a problem with the fact that I'm a heterosexual male who happens to like naked ladies can bugger off. It's not like we're yelling sexist expletives from a scaffold at anyone, just watching semi-naked animated characters in the privacy of our own homes.

It's not as though it's just a male thing either, I'm sure the girls with their BL doujinshi would say the same.

It's more of the fact that y'know...some of us don't want people to know that we watch those kind of shows, especially when some might still be living at home and/or with young people in the house? Sure, most of the time people will probably only see the spines on a shelf, but there's always the chance. It's why I won't get any figures of characters in bikinis and stuff until I have my own place (if at all).

At least say, Strike Witches 2's box art is mostly kosher (especially with the BBFC logo covering up Lucchini) and even Samurai Girls only has a tiny bit of butt showing.

Also, you can just see the Daily Mail articles coming about someone who went to buy their kid the latest shonen anime DVD and sees that in the anime section of HMV or Forbidden Planet and how all anime is about boobs.

In my experience people just keep quiet, unless they're some sort of prudish moralists in which case they wouldn't be in my home in the first place (I am sincerely sorry for those who have moralistic family members and hope they have the chance to escape as soon as possible). I don't see anything dirty about sex or the human body at all, and as such I don't think it's something people of any age need to be shielded from.

That's a hypothetical though. We can take care of any problems as they arise.

I personally like the HOTD cover, but I'm shameless like that. It fairly represents its contents. I think Strike Witches looks just as questionable to a normal person with its bulging bloomers.

In a world where anime hadn't been devalued so much, reversible covers would solve everything.

i concur (don't say that often), i get the worries that people may lump anime as boobs and a tool for mindless sex if they saw the cover, but i hardly think it will damage the industry, yes i may not want a family member to see it, but if they ever did, i'd just tell them the truth, i'm young and straight and like the combination of boobs and zombies. and they can never be bought up on charges of false advertising, that cover pretty much sums up the series, and highlights it's good parts. they did mention we'd get an o-card (?) with it, which is a slipcover if i'm not mistaken, this may be the cover art for the dvd case but have different art on the slipcover. either way i don't miind.

If there's a different piece of artwork on the O-Card then it'll be fine.

I don't mind the HOTD cover personally, but I know some people will have a problem with it. I have to wonder if it was designed to grab the Daily Mail readers attention intentionally, after all 'any publicity is good publicity'.

At my local HMV, it's next to the World Cinema section, which is also next to the Martial Arts section.

Same in both my local HMV's - hmm, I guess having 2 within a few miles of each other might mean one is doomed
