But Bleach post Soul Society is a joke...

I don't know - some of the Arrancar fights are pretty fun, they just go on for aaaaaaages. Bleach has always had a problem with stringing fights out - I swear some of them last about 20 episodes or something.

Actually, that's funny, because Bleach is good with that. Most manga-adapted episodes go through 2, 2 1/2 manga chapters an episode, something that other shonen series rarely do. The drawback of course was more long filler arcs due to eating up manga material so quickly, breaking up the Arrancar arc into several sections, but still, dragging out fights is not something I'd accuse Bleach of. I mean the big showdown between Ichigo and Ulquiorra lasts all of four episodes once the side characters break off, and Ichigo vs. Aizen barely lasts two episodes!

I think the main one I'm thinking of is the battle with Nnoitora - doesn't that go on for 12 episodes?

Heck, look at how much padding they had to add to the Fullbring Arc (which was easily my favourite story arc) in the anime. When the anime finished, the manga was only two chapters ahead, if I remember correctly!

Depends what you mean, Nnoitora vs. Nel, or Nnoitora vs. Kenpachi? It's a bit harsh to just count them all as one fight. The whole Nel story was told in five episodes (190 - 195), though it shared plenty of screen time with Aporro Grantz facing off with Uryu and Renji. Nnoitora vs. Kenpachi began in episode 196, but the actual fight as seen in the manga didn't start proper until 200, then ended in 202, before then it was quick cuts while they did the manga fights for Byakuya vs. Zommari (pretty much just episode 197) and Aporro Grantz vs. Mayuri (Episodes 198 and 199). I guess the anime's want to show that the other fights are going on at the same time makes some of them seem long, where as the manga is just several chapters for this fight in a row, and then switch to this fight.

Lawrence is indeed right that 266 - 310 (with a few stand alone filler episodes) was pretty much a straight run of manga adaptations.

The Fullbring arc is funny, because it starts off stretched and then due to the anime's sudden cancellation, the end is rushed. Based on past experience I think it would be safe to say that the final fights would have been paced properly like previous fights in the series.

Erm, anyway, enough of my unhealthy obsession with Bleach (that sounds unpleasant if you don't know I'm talking about anime/manga..) and let's talk about UK boxart and stuff. For the record, I agree that the Series 12 set is obnoxiously huge.

Y'all have got some extreme level of knowledge on that show. ^^;

Normanic, where do you get those spines pics from? Do you work in a comic/DVD store?

The local store that I visit every now and then when I was in Sheffield (called Sheffield Space Centre) posted a picture of their latest anime arrivals on Facebook. It's a great store and they even have some older anime from the Beez/ADV era including the Eureka Seven singles and much more. They also get anime quicker than Amazon especially with the MVM items. My only criticism are the SRP prices (not their fault though).

Love the Nekomonogatari cover - and weyhey! No disc count logo on the spine!

Cos it's only one disc...

That's true heh. Anyway the rest of the Monogatari arcs should be 1 disc from now on so consistency should be good for the UK owners (since MVM are taking the special combo pack designs from Hanabee's release hence the lack of black borders on the spine).

Unless I'm blind, there are only UK logos on those discs.
The discs were authored and printed by Sentai, then sent over here for just for MVM. MVM sent them the disc artwork for the print run, hence why there's no other logos.
Another on BD only happened because enough people asked for it.
