Is the funimation hellsing ultimate a/b? I don't want them to release ep 9-10 of hellsing in dvd only.

I think it's region locked to A, though I am actually curious to see whether the DVDs are Region 2 like Funimation's shop specified.
A/1 Locked.

Figured so haha.

Hold on a sec, if Manga UK's schedule is barely empty then what about KAZE's titles? I know KAZE is an absolute pain but they do have Bleach to finish off. Manga distributes their titles and with no one barely around for that company what's going to happen next for them? Will they appear on Q2's schedule or will they stop overall? Or perhaps Animatsu will distribute for them?

Hopefully we'll still get an Eva 3.33 BD release next year. Although Anime Limited taking over the license for the whole series would be the best thing that could happen.

Even if it does turn out to be DVD only and you can't play A locked discs, just get the Australian Blu-ray which is out already.

Oh yeah, good idea. I hope manga keep producing their current products though. They are backed by a big company so a nice consistent revenue stream would probably be nice for them right?

Finally confirmed on Twitter that even the forthcoming Fairy Tail part releases are DVD only. Why be so coy? Might as well drop the news about Samurai Bride too. Stop pussyfooting around the issue.

That's pretty messed up - and they're probably not doing themselves any favours by not offering a more comprehensive answer to why this decision was taken.

So both MVM and Manga are struggling to justify BDs these days at all (though MVM is certainly trying whenever they can). The newcomers will have to pick up the slack; we can't go back to DVD-only for everything now!

This really sucks for anyone who was supporting the UK Fairy Tail and wanted a consistent collection. And for people who wasted time believing Manga's lies about BD releases when they could have just been importing.

I've got to say, this really is disappointing.

Fairy Tail isn't a show I've been following, but being effectively forced to swap from BD to DVD would leave me feeling pretty annoyed. Sure, there are bigger and far worthier things in this world to get up in arms over, but it's still a punch in the gut.

At this point, I wonder if it wouldn't cost a whole ton less to just get shows up on all the places that matter (Netflix, CR, Amazon) with dub (if applicable) and sell AL styled Limited/Special editions.

The phyical media's dyin', Cloud!

In the case of Fairy Tail there is no one need for anyone to swap from Blu-ray to DVD. If you can't play A locked discs just import Madman's release. They are still releasing Fairy Tail on Blu-ray.

I bet Funimation going Region A only after Part 10 was because Manga whining that they didn't want imports eating into their sales. So thanks twice over for that one Manga!

I don't blame them considering people whine at them to release stuff on BD but never actually buy it

Or it's simply that FUNi was authoring the discs for Manga and now they're not any more, there's no need to include Region B on their masters. Same happened for FMA:B (although in that case is wasn't a sub-licence like it is for Fairy Tail).
