UK Anime Release Schedule -Updated-

Just received an email saying that Evangelion 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo - Limited Edition Combo Pack is now 31 December 2014 (it was 28 August 2014).

The Amazon listing of "Cowboy Bebop - Complete BD Collection" has been updated to a 23 June 2014 date!
That is definitely more realistic than 20 June since anime releases never are initially scheduled for a day other than monday in the UK.

K Delay! DeKay from Kaze! Who is surprised?!!

Now coming out on May 5th
Done just now, got the tweet on my notifications. ;)

These Kaze releases are getting ridiculous...
"... ARE GETTING..."?! They have been for so long that even World War 1 feels like yesterday now. (And I wasn't even there, I think. =P)

To me, most Kaze releases are the same as having no release at all! Heck, that's even better... Then I don't have to feel slightly bad about downloading.
Because if there is no release I have no legal alternative, as the US release is A-only, and then I can still bug distributors to licence it and get it out in a decent manner which now isn't possible for the next 5 years maybe... I can't even comprehend why some distributors are still putting BD in DVD-sized packaging...

Also, judging Madman's listing/cover art of K they are using Kaze's masters which is just sad as well. (You know, no disc count means 1 disc)

Madman, and to some extent Hanabee seem to be looking more to importing discs now rather than authoring themselves, hence the amount of AB 1/4 releases in America. Unless an AU company can team up with a UK one to do a BD, newer titles released by Viz in the US seem to get DVD only releases in Australia.

Nerima Daikon Brothers delayed until May 24th?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nerima-Daikon-B ... ima+daikon

I'm also baffled how this show is only 12 episodes and is about the same price as Outlaw Star is (26 episodes with remaster). Must be a more expensive license I presume?

Nerima Daikon Brothers: New show -> higher licence fee + no one has it
Outlaw Star: Old Show -> easy to licence + some people will have to double dip

Outlaw Star while re-mastered is still old putting some people off, likewise others will not necessarily wish to double dip, hence it makes sense to not price it excessively high to encourage more people to pick it up. Though given all the time and effort to line up the re-mastered footage I'm wondering how it'll work out profit wise in the end.

Basically also packaging is a big factor for both along with all the reasons above :).

For Outlaw we spent the most money on re-authoring and switched to Amaray for the box which actually saved a lot long term on it, delivers the quality of video and trades off on the higher cost packaging. This is why it's at £34.99 not £39.99 or Bebop's DVD pricing for Outlaw Star.

For Nerima, the plan was as it's the first ever UK release to do a rigid case to go with it - which costs more money - and we've also managed to improve the video capture significantly over the US one. Which cost a bit more but was worth it :). This is why the £34.99 SRP on it despite being 12 episodes long.

Hope this helps make it a bit clearer!

Thanks for clarifying. I didn't actually know Nerima had never been released in the UK, nor that it was coming in a rigid case. That's very cool. Shame Outlaw Star isn't though, but oh well. Locked my copy in for a bargaintastic £16. Looking forward to both releases.

Does that mean that Outlaw Star being in amaray packaging is as a result of the costs of the extra re-authoring needed to fix the errors that have been found, or was the intention always to release it in amaray packaging to make up for the costs of having to originally mix the audio with the remastered animation?

It was always the plan - the errors cost not much to fix barring time and negotiation for new assets from Japan. The real costs were re-doing all the subs to be timed with the video, ensuring the dub aligned to the new video and actually acquiring (the rental fee was really high), digitising (older tape format, required a specific reader) and that kind of stuff that meant the trade off.

If anything I'd be tempted to compensate fans for their patience with Collector's Packaging if it weren't for the fact of cost vs price!

So it got delayed and now it's out early today?
Thanks for the heads-up (though the vagueness of your post entailed some detective work - i.e. visiting MVM's Twitter - on my part). Just ordered a copy of GaP so hopefully it'll go out today.

I believe why they delayed it was because it was going to be a too close call...

You need to remember it is always the case that MVM receives copies 2 weeks in advance, and MangaUK often seems to get copies 4 weeks in front of the projected release date.
Then, in the 2 spare weeks copies can be spread to stores and warehouses all over the United Kingdom...
And I believe that was the reason for the delay, if MVM received the just finished print of Girls und Panzer BD today it might not get to warehouses/stores in time for its initial release date whereas with the new release date stores and warehouses can just say "it's not released yet" instead of "we're waiting on stock, they're late with delivering it"...
I mean... MVM is always the first to get stock, and they'd have had 3 days to spread copies across the UK if they kept the release date as is.

Of course this is me speculating what the case is, but I think that's the most sane explanation. I'd have preferred them pushing back the dvd as well, given what Jerome said on the matter of BD sales if they are released weeks, months or years after the dvd release, but yeah... (Either way I feel not all conditions for MVM are equal to Manga)

PS: Also, MVM likes to give their AOL users some kind of premium treatment by letting them have releases earlier than the rest who order via Amazon, Zavvi, etc.

According to Amazon, Nerima Daikon Brothers has been delayed until 20th June.

I presume issues have been found like with Outlaw Star?

I remember correctly they're using a slightly better video master than the Funimation release with Nerima so I wouldn't be surprised if they found some issues that need fixing.

As for Outlaw Star, I'm not fussed if it gets delayed as long as the final product has all the issues fixed plus some neat extras.

Not so much a case of special or premium treatment. We get stock in early and can ship there and then. Amazon/Zavvi/everywhere else ship a few days before actual release date - this applies with just about everything with retailers.
