Themed weeks

This may seem like a random topic at first but i'll explain what i mean. Basically put, a while back you may have noticed a fair few members where sporting Bonta-kun or Full Metal Panic! related avatars, it was i guess you could say a small attempt at getting people who may not have originally looked into FMP, to look into it. You could say we where trying to promote it. And basically these "themed weeks" i have been planning for a while now are basically that, but being a lot more obvious about it.

We generally find a lot of people asking for recommendations and of course there is usually a fair few normal ones which are mentioned each time, but there are ones which would normally go overlooked, and we kinda want people to look into them instead. Thats not to say we won't look into more well known series, i mean the rest of this week is going to be dedicated to Gundam as its 30th birthday was yesterday, but we'll try to get more interest into some other shows outwith the norm.

Just to note there is certain series which won't get considered, them being major shounen ones like Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Death Note and most Jump, and others like Ghost in the Shell, as they have enough coverage in the UK or in the anime community in general that they don't really need to be promoted.

Oh and i'll note one last thing. We're wanting licensed shows as well. Its all fine and dandy a fair few of us watch the latest series in japan, but its better we look more into whats already available here than anything else.

So asides from all the above, what would you like to see promoted?

EDIT: Just so that people can view it here as well as half way through the topic, here is the plan so far:

Starting 27th April: Trigun(new box set released that week)
Starting 11th May: Mai-Hime(Box set released on 18th of May)
Starting 25th of May: Eureka Seven(Box set 2 is released on the 25th)
Starting 8th of June: Claymore(volumes 1 and 2 released on 8th of June)
Starting 22nd of June: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann(Part 1 released 22nd June)
Starting 6th of July: Witchblade(series already released)
Starting 20th of July: Gundam 00(part one released on 20th July)

Yes there is two weeks free between gurren lagann and gundam 00, but they can be used either as two free weeks or to touch on the other series recommended. I'll note that they won't just be done in order of being recommended, but more chosen at random, they will all get a week in the end after all.

How about a generic steampunk theme. I'm not a big fan of series with such elements, but it can lead to fun things.
(I know of societies who have hosed Steampunk picnics on Hampstead Heath!)

A couple of series suggestions here, Gungrave, Trigun, Macross (only problem with this one is the fact that we only have a few Macross anime compared to how much was released), Fate Stay Night (probably a no go since it's been talked a lot about recently).

Some long shots would be GaoGaiGar, When They Cry and Tsukihime :p

I could see an evolution of this being genre themed weeks but i don't know how that would work, similar to what Zin5ki said, but like with Mecha, Slice of Life, Harem etc.

Nah Legend of Galactic heroes would be a long shot, as for the idea. Could be interesting, but depends how it's done. Bit thin on details ( or understanding after 4 pints on an empty stomach)

@Slayers choice: I'm gonna put that up for next week, as i have had the suggested to me plenty of times before, hah

@Hopeful: What i've been thinking is as we've started big discussions on the likes of FMP and Gundam as of late, we try to do the same with the promoted series, Slayers for example i mean for starters i don't think we've ever had a proper discussion on here about it. We could use other methods to get it promoted here as well, so i'm open to some suggestions(as at the moment we still have till monday before i start slayers one up), so anyway you see could help get more people interested in it would be helpful.

How about some that are set to be released over the next few months like Darker Than Black, Claymore, Ghost Hunt, Gurren Lagann, Gundam 00 or Eureka Seven (in the boxset form)?

Actually in the old plan of things this was Gundam week because of its 30th anniversary yesterday :)

Claymore week is a must! Arby wont deny me that :p

This would be ace if we could tie it in with a discussion thread for people watching or rewatching the show. But that would require more than one week, I guess, or at least some time inbetween each themed week.

Well my general idea for this was to get people into a series, and as such we'd promote series A that week and create a discussion for it. There is nothing preventing that topic from continuing past the themed week, So it gives everyone a chance to discuss their thoughts on it whilst they are watching it or as you said, re-watching it. Unless you mean take a week off inbetween at least so that people focus on that one more for two weeks then the focus goes onto another afterwards?

Yeah, I think it would be hard for people to keep up with picking up new series every week. Obviously people wouldn't have to pick up every series that was discussed, and the series wouldn't all be new to some people, but still.
