The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

Let the annual 'Toho milking' commence! 😂
until the end of time....

Yaay! Although I will take my ear muffs this time, it was VERY loud 😂

I took the kiddos to see the MHA film on the weekend, we all loved it. I enjoyed the older style animation and the storyline was good, and included plenty of laughs. They could have done with explaining where Aizawa was at the beginning lol. I read a few snarky reviews of it by national newspaper people but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Jerome Mazandarani, formerly of Manga Entertainment, is the new Answerman at ANN…

Heh, the forum thread gives the impression Americans are not familiar with Jerome, this might be fun. Time to dust off the “days since Jerome p*ssed someone off” counter. Don’t let me down, man.

Also if Jerome can write “a*se” in an ANN article I think I should be permitted to write it here. Free the a*se, AUKN, it’s surely not considered any more offensive in the UK than “ass” and iirc for a decent amount of time a certain forum member used it as part of a nickname for me without censure, which I found amusing. Do all those historic posts now read ay****?

Love that his first article is about anime piracy websites and their effect on the industry.

Crunchyroll quietly lowers It's baseball cap and pulls its hoodie up while backing into the shadows...

Kind of surprised by Netflix getting Oshi no Ko after Disney+ signed a deal with Sentai.
But anywhere is better than nowhere!!! (HiDive isn't a real place in the UK 😂)

Oshi no Ko on Netflix? Hell yeah!!! I don't usually use Netflix for Anime but this means the chances of someone I know somehow watching it increases by a lot hahaha.

NOOOO.......................... today's issue of NEO magazine is the last, I only started reading a few years ago and now another magazine is gone. Not to mention the last uk based magazine about anime. Hope another take's it's place but I won't hold my breath. This is so sad for print media.
As someone who worked at MyM which closed some years ago, it is indeed a sad day.

Tbh Neo should have gone ages ago. I stopped reading when they started showing fake goods from TokyoToys and when this was pointed out on the old Neo Forum the posts were removed. And the TokyoToys started sponsoring the Neo Awards and kept winning the award for best anime merchandiser.

for what it's worth in the first piece where all there writer's say something Jonathan Clements does point out we've been here before with uk anime news publication's closing then new one's popping up, but personally it seems hard to imagine you could make a new one today, i would like there to be something because i like holding something in my hand and it informed me on blu-ray's not to mention it's how i learnt death note the musical was happening in the uk and animeuk london was happening, i don't think that sort of thing will come by me online now and i really want to learn about the industry from the uk side of thing's.

10-12 years ago, I was buying about a dozen magazines a month.
I'm now down to Private Eye.

Regarding the fake thing, I'm sure a fair few of us still use eBay. The biggest seller of fake anime.
It's tough to be pure.
