The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

22nd of September, not sure if they will be one a week or all at once. Also not sure if the Japanese dub will be available. Can't wait to see what the studios involved have come up with.

As part of a forthcoming BFI Japan season, there will be: "A two-month celebration of a century of anime will take place at BFI Southbank throughout April and May 2022; further details of this season will be announced soon."

Almost had a heart attack thinking this series was gonna be revived 😱 Though why would they have the need to reboot a song? Unless... 👀

I really thought the outrage at Gainax was totally misguided - copyright infringement is copyright infringement, irrespective of any pseudo-philantrophic motive. Not to mention the fact that 'preserving' or 'restoring' a print when there are superior film elements in existence is a bit of a pointless endeavour.

Though at least as a result we got to hear this great news.

Likewise. Can anyone offer an account of what lead up to the above Tweet?

This article is a decent recap but seems to very much approve of the 'restoration' effort and it's claim that "typically, major preservation efforts are done by companies based on commercial motivations rather than historical importance or even popularity" will come as a surprise to The Film Foundation, the BFI, and all the other not-for-profit organisations and charities carrying out preservation and restoration of cinema heritage across the world.

PV for World's End Harem is now out, as it's airing this October (and streaming on Crunchyroll). Animation designs are a downgrade as it'll never be on the same level as the manga's artwork but it does a solid enough job for the budget that it has and production wise is looking be faithful on the fanservice approach (as this is a pretty tough series to adapt due to the amount of nudity and sex shown across the series).

The voice work sounds great and my only concern is honestly the pace of the adaptation. The first part of the story is 12 volumes long and you could in theory cover all of the main story beats in 24 episodes and I hope this is the case here. They can't really consider cramming all of the content into 12-13 episodes especially when the second part After World only just started being serialised in Shonen Jump Plus.
