The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

Rather late but Funimation have unveiled their February line up this week.

.hack//SIGN - Complete Series (DVD) - Regions TBA
A Certain Magical Index the Movie: Miracle of Endymion (Blu-ray/DVD) - Region A|1
Ben-To - Complete Series [Standard & Limited Edition] (Blu-ray/DVD) - Region A|B|1|2|4
Space Dandy - Season 1 [Standard & Limited Edition + Amazon/Funimation Exclusive Edition] (Blu-ray/DVD) - Region A|B|1

Short month but I'll probably bet more will be added later on, it doesn't seem right to keep the list small.

ACMI movie is still dated for January on Amazon US so it looks like the film has an exclusive early release over on there.
.hack//SIGN doesn't have a Blu-ray release in Japan so DVD only was expected.
Ben-To retains the original cover art, bonus extras and region specs - only this time it will be uncut!
Space Dandy Season 1 has an artbox to fit both seasons together, shockingly enough it's stated to work on B players.

As a reminder, Tokyo Ravens Part 1 is stated for early March while the various other .hack titles (G.U. Trilogy [subtitle only], Legend of the Twilight, Roots) are arriving throughout the course of Spring. Evangelion 3.0 is still TBA while Neptunia and Sankarea are still stated for early 2015.

 AL really can't catch a break. I have next week off work so was hoping to get it to avoid the dreaded "left outside my flat/given to a neighbour/left at sorting office" situation

Here's hoping year 3 is MUCH better for them (and in turn, us)

At least Gurren Lagann is out of the way (sort of). Hopefully next year they can surprise us with some licenses that not even US or Australia have yet to pick up.

Discotek have acquired the following:

Descendents of Darkness - Bilingual language - DVD (2015)
IGPX - Bilingual language - DVD (2015)
Lupin the Third: From Russia With Love (also known as Bank of Liberty) - Japanese language - DVD (2015)
Magic Knight Rayearth (TV) - Bilingual language - DVD (2015), Blu-ray (2016)
Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas - Japanese language - DVD (2015)

One big title will be announced next week. Don't forget they also acquired some sport titles (I would say Hajime no Ippo is the most expected out of all).

Attack on Titan 2nd Season is rumoured to air in 2016. It was tweeted from fans who watched the first compilation Attack on Titan movie.
Happy because that means it should get a proper adaptation and not something rushed. However the wait of over a year is gruesome.

Indeed, the last thing we want is to veer off into filler, or as quite often happens a key point is glossed over because it didn't seem important at the time only for it to be super important later.

Oh wow, Rayearth for Blu-Ray!! That gives me hopes they may go for Lodoss too!!

I could never get the Rayearth DVD's again due to Media Blasters latest remaster being out of print once I decided to come back to anime so great news!

Presumably, they bought IGPX so they wouldn't trancend their mortal bodies by releaseing only good stuff.

Slightly annoying. I ended up paying $65 for mine ($10 extra as I wasn't aware that they removed the extra for shipping to the UK). I understand that they want to sell the extra stock, but feel that a higher RRP should of been applied for Amazon, like with the UE of Patema, otherwise people will just wait for this to happen with the next anime based Kickstarter pledge.

I can shed some light on that one - basically Amazon controls the pricing. So the SRP very clearly is set at £39.99 as it would be sold normally (we apply a £5 discount on AlltheAnime.com) but Amazon has clearly discounted to get an uplift in orders here just. It's likely not going to hang around forever there and while it is frustrating, it's not the people running the KS' fault there...

I understand that they control the pricing, but I believe for future listings 'you' should increase the SRP for outside of kickstarter pledges, so when the discount is applied this doesn't happen, similar to the pricing for the UE of Patema. Obviously, over time everything lowers in price, but I believe is this happens frequently (without the KS pledge having additional content etc) then I believe you'll find a lot of people not backing and simply waiting for it to turn up on amazon as it'll be cheaper.

If that makes sense?

Yeah - I think the core issue is figuring balance out really. It's a tough one to do as sometimes Amazon doesn't discount at all and if I'd been making the call there (and I was asked actually) I'd have said Amazon wouldn't discount a film at £39.99 on assumption it's a tough sell regardless...

Either way, we do design the mark-ups to be higher and make that very clear on our Kickstarter from Day 1 so people know there's no benefit to waiting :).
