The Gundam Thread

I'm watching Gundam SEED (HD remaster with newer NYAV Post English dub) and enjoying it quite a lot, is Destiny as bad as it's detractors would have you believe or is it worth buying and watching as well in the opinion of the Gundam fans here? (If I do decide to buy it, it will be when it's on a AL Gundam BOGOF sale in the likely event they do another one of those!) :)

It's a trainwreck that swaps back to the original cast of Seed as the new characters are berift of character traits other than anger.

The ending was so bad they went back and did an ova to change it.

The funniest thing is Age eventually devolves into the same plot point at the end of Destiny and somehow does it worse.

I gave up on the dub due to odd choices. Chiefly making Murrue the nasty one and Natarle the nice one. That's the complete opposite of their dynamic.

As for Destiny- I'm mixed. I have it on good standing from a very credible source that at the time Fukuda admitted the show had spun off target. The original idea is good- a second war and the protagonist is someone who was failed by Kira's ideology directly. But over time the show becomes completely unwilling to be critical of Kira or Lacus and the new cast have a massive IQ and morality drop.

I enjoy how in AGE Kio's direct commander is like "I see you pulling that Kira crap. Whilst you were fighting to protect enemies, do you know how many of your allies they took out?"

AGE is very flawed but at least it called out Kira's pacifism as being unworkable in combat.

So Bandai UK did a press event at MCM and despite having worked with them as press over the last 12 months I wasn't invited. Attendees got a guided tour of the Gundam booth, details of future plans and priority seating at the panel.

It's incredibly disheartening to know that in regards to something as a fan and a journalist I've put in over 20 years of covering, increasing awareness of, etc I'm just not on the radar. I'm not owed anything but on this I've put the work in and apparently it's still not good enough.
I'm genuinely dejected over this. I've been doing my journalism for 20 years, largely because I like being able to deliver information to people. News, interviews, reviews. I pride myself on fact based reporting with minor editorialising.

The way I've been fobbed off on a series I'm a big fan of and have put out extensive coverage of well before it was at its current UK heights...that hurts. And I think what hurts most isn't not getting an opportunity is the way I was treated like some upstart nobody when I (unaware of the extent of what happened this weekend) politely spoke to them hoping to smooth things over following my major point of contact leaving the company.

I do what I do largely in hopes it's a service to others but I still have professional pride. I've got a ton of Gundam photos I took at the event and to be honest right now I just don't care. I don't want that to sound parasocial. It would have been one thing if I didn't get an invite but being treated like I was no one, rather than someone who has put extensive work in...that hurts. And it hurts in a way that makes me question what I'm doing.
