The Gundam Thread

This is the rub. I implore people to support Gundam Base London...but if you know where to look online, you can find this stuff from non scalpers and likely cheaper.
Thats why I asked if anyones going to GBL before looking elsewhere as more customers they get, the more chance stuff like this happens again

But between not wanting to be an inconvenience to other forum users and not being able to make it to london for personal reasons, Mandarake is the next best (non scalper) option

On a plus side I have purchased a few kits from UK retailers this week so still supported the UK Gunpla market. I just wish Bandai was a bit more UK friendly when it comes to PBandai and Replacement Parts

3rd Gundam Base London pin badge starts today and new exclusives next week.

Will be honest, some of these prices are ludicrous. £180 for Hyper Mode God Gundam? That's just gouging.

So yesterday's Gundam Base trip went well. I was waiting in line from 8 to 10am though some folks had been there since 6. A number of people snuck into the market to wait outside the store but to their credit Base staff herded them outside and forced them to join the back of our line.

Lots of friendly and supportive chatter. I live in a horrible hellhole of a town so I get none of this locally but it was honestly touching what good sports everyone was being.

One thing that we were united on not liking- the £180 for Hyper Mode God Gundam. That's over double the JPY price, folks knew it and weren't buying. For context Mega Size was £115 and Sazabi was £200 and they were flying off the shelves. People know nearly £200 for a 1/144 is a rip-off. I'm just sad it'll send the incorrect message people don't like G Gundam.

Even though I wasnt buying any more Gunpla. Decided to buy a Daban 8827 - Wing Snow White.

Reviews seem decent for a third party and had experience with the two Daban Freedoms so hopefully goes well

Thinking on it, it's probably a bad idea to give an exclusive card at Gundam demo sessions. Or rather, to rotate the exclusive card design. The sessions are limited first come first serve, ideally hooking people who have never played. But by offering different exclusives, the sessions instead get filled with existing players. This was certainly my experience last month. Compare to the Gunpla sessions where it's always the bespoke RX-78-2 created for these sessions. An interesting curio for existing hobbyists but once you've got one you don't need to go again. I think it'd be a better idea to make the demo card a consistent static design. Say a foil Resource card depicting the Operation V manual, a cute reference to Gundam's own starting point. You then have something nice and shiny to send new potential players away with but also stop existing ones taking up space in sessions.

Even as someone who is unlikely to attend one of these events (as I have watched and enjoyed various Gundam series but don't really have much if any interest in Gundam merch), I think your reasoning makes a lot of sense. I read and like your posts in this thread because I appreciate the thought and effort you put into them, just wanted to say you're doing a great job :)
