Sorry to hear that.
In saying that, I must remark it is quite a novelty hearing people being given redundancy payments. Sadly, the majority of people I have known over the years to lose their jobs tended not to receive such treatment.

Hope you enjoy the new job, st_owly!

Sort of serious question here - If you wanted to learn Japanese then what is the best way to go about doing so? I imagine classes and years of hard work are the obvious answer, but I'm curious enough to ask anyway. :)

So I'm in Vietnam for work and the hotel I'm, they have given a complimentary pot noodle (well, Vietnam's answer to it anyway). Not sure why but I just find it quite odd/funny lool.

I saw that on your Twitter, kinda random. How's the work trip going for ya? ;)

I wonder if you've spotted any anime bootlegs yet.

That is indeed a start, but surely you will require further sustenance! I hear they make most delectable of sandwiches over there...

Where in Vietnam are you? We have a trip out there for my uni course, next year.

Yeah I had to do a double take when I saw it. Yeah it's going good, the time spent in Malaysia went well. However, as I was coming into Vietnam, I almost got refused entry/got put in a cell because I couldn't produce a return ticket (even though with a UK passport they're meant to let you in no questions for 15 days) so yeah that was a bit of a scare lol but now all is good and now just waiting to begin a training session in one college, then tomorrow and Friday I am in two other colleges so going to be busy. Last night was my first bit of proper sleep in a while so at least that is something.

Lucky for some. How long are you there for?

Yeah, one of the few percs of my work - was kinda glad it happened now as things in the office were getting intense so even though I'm working out here, it's definitely allowed me to chill out a bit more. I'm here until Saturday - will be flying to Singapore to catch a connecting flight back to London (the transfer waiting time is like 6 hours though :/).

Haha yes will definitely need more, luckily the hotel comes with breakfast and the restaurants are reasonably priced here. Can't say I've heard that but if I get the chance I'll be sure to try some Vietnamese sandwiches!

Currently in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and then will be flying to Hanoi tomorrow night - schedules kinda tight these next few days so won't be able to explore like I did while in Malaysia (was there from Saturday until yesterday before flying here). Nice - what's the reason for the visit/going to a specific place or event?

Well that escalated quickly.

Andrea Leadsom pulled out of the Conservative leadership contest and David Cameron will hand over the position of Prime Minister to Theresa May on Wednesday of this week.

Sorry for the late reply, I've only just seen this.

I do a business based course, so we're going to Vietnam (also Ho Chi Minh City, I believe) to look at how business is done out there, and how international joint ventures work.

Which means that, if I'm still living at my parents' house when the time comes, I will get the honour of being able to actually vote directly for or against the prime minister at the next election - something that even Conservative Party members have not had the opportunity to do. (Maidenhead being one of the relatively small number of constituencies in the country which won't need to change its boundaries after 2018 - except possibly to enable other constituencies to work better)

Yeah having now arrived back in the UK, Ho Chi Minh (formerly Saigon) is definitely a more developed city than Hanoi (everyone goes to sleep at 9pm and the army comes out in Hanoi, in HCMC there is some night life). If you're near the Rex hotel, check the city centre at night nearby the Ho Chi Minh statue, loads of people come out on those hoverboard/segway things and there are some really nice bars, it's quite a sight - just be careful because they have timed water fountains that will come out of the floor and you could get soaked lol. Also, there's a tall skyscraper that has 'Skydeck' on it (paid entry to a bar on the 52nd floor) - don't enter the skydeck, go in via the normal entrance to the mall and ask the information desk how to get to the cafe on the 51st floor, that will get you to a sky cafe which do really nice deserts. If you're near the New World hotel, head to the Chill Skybar that is just around the corner - the beers are really reasonably priced and the view is amazing.

HCMC made me laugh, one of the partner colleges we visited has a slide for students - once they have finished studying, they just go down the slide and it takes them outside of the college lol.

I made an anagram to describe the situation:

Yes, that's quite the funny worery there *smile*

Anyone else hate having to replace their keyboard? I have a new one and it is different so i am typing like a muppet right now...

Did anyone else see May's speech? I just have and must say I'm in quite a shock. Some quite harsh admissions about the UK's current state which I was not expecting a Conservative PM to bring up.

'If you’re black, you’re treated more harshly by the criminal justice system than if you’re white. If you’re a white, working-class boy, you are less likely than anybody else in Britain to go to university. If you’re at a state school, you’re less likely to reach the top professions than if you are educated privately. If you’re a woman, you will earn less than a man. If you suffer from mental health problems, there's not enough help to hand. If you're young, you will find it harder than ever before to own your own home.' We all know these problems are apparent but was not expecting them to be laid out so clearly in her speech. Of course we can't yet judge what her and her currently forming government do about these issues just yet but yeah, very interesting.

Since she's not quite the showman that Cameron is or Blair was, it would be interesting to see how she handles the position of PM.

Well judging by her making Bojo foreign secretary, I don't think we should hold out much hope.

Boris Johnson. The man whose quotables includes " The best fate for Africa would be if the old colonial powers, or their citizens, scrambled once again in her direction; on the understanding that this time they will not be asked to feel guilty."

We are effed.
