Hmmm... as of the original series adaption, I'd place him high suffering low deserved, but the reveal at the end of this season much higher deserved for the way he treats his own team

As I've argued before his only parental figure is a terrible human being and everyone around him just uses him for their own means, specifically piloting massive mecha. The only person to not treat him like crap dies before his very eyes. The guy is a whiny twat at times and makes it hard to sympathise with him but he deserves better.

That one was referring to Tokyo ghoul. He bites his team's heads of when everything settles down.
And I've looked at it again Griffith is higher than frieza deserved? The stuff that happens in berserk is pretty dark and quite a bit is related to Griffith but frieza is a tyrant from the start, he slowly kills a mostly pacifist race and destroys planets for fun. How is frieza not higher for that?

Oh right yeah Kaneki went through a lot of personality shifts. Later on in the manga some major Sh*t happens to him.

Yeah I'd put Frieza pretty high. I think Griffith gets put so high because of the notoriety of his actions and how much of a meme it's become
