Welsh we call your country "Yr Alban
Does that have a literal meaning?

Also, Neil, do you do anything particular on St Andrew's Day? Y'know, like the Irish make a big celebration of St Patricks and all...
Nah, the Irish pretty much have the whole celebration thing bought and paid for. St Andrew's day passes without much notice. Burns Night, celebrating the poet Rabbie Burns on Jan 25th, is more popular. This is when haggis, neeps and tatties (haggis, turnips and potatoes) is chiefly eaten.

Believe it or not, I've never eaten haggis. I'm honestly not the most Scottish of Scots!

What about St David's?

Would I pass for a native on account of my use of the word "properly"
You probably wouldn't, because it's not a Scottish thing. I pinched that one from an indie band called Hot Club de Paris, who are Scousers. I reckon I'm a bit of a linguistic magpie!

Oh my God...

You're a fake Scot!

As for "Yr Alban", I think it's to do with "Alba", the Scots-GAH-lic name for Scotland :)
