I like me some Depeche Mode, but my favorite 80's band of that genre was definitely The Fixx. Also really liked Thomas Dolby.

As far as Electronic music goes, I'm a big old-school fan - Give me some Jean Michel Jarre and some Tangerine Dream anytime! Just got to see Jarre in concert last summer in Philadelphia, after waiting over 30 years for him to come back to the US on tour - we had front row seats!

I saw Depeche Mode live twice last year, blew me away both times, their music still commands an audience and some of the performances were chilling.

Oh I can imagine them sounding amazing and putting on quite a performance! I think these bands just really know how to move with the times yet still deliver the sounds that made them famous. I love that!

Dad also liked Jarre, as did I :) Got me into learning how to play keyboard, along with Gary Numan ^^

"One thing Leads to Another" is amazing
Thomas Dolby is also great, The Flat Earth is one of my favourite albums.

Yeah they added little motifs and build ups to old classics, making them sound fresh and new, some bands just play the same old songs without variation.

The stuff I got from my parents were all mainly 70s, apart from the Beatles.
Bowie, Queen, Pink Floyd, Kate Bush, etc plus some British Folk Revival stuff like Steeleye Span and Fairport Convention.

That's what Dad's are for, or anyone old enough that you know to introduce you to the party ;)
well he spends all his time with his girlfriend now, though my parents did used to tell me, it's mostly about how they met though.
I'm thinking now what my family may have always been thinking, some pictures of my dad when he was younger are the splitting image of my brother and they have the same name - clone?

I'm a big Gary numan fan, Are friends Electric was the first single I ever bought in 1979!!
I quite like his early stuff but a large chunk of his later input isn't that great (The song Berserker is underrated though) even he himself said his 90s albums weren't very good. His recent album is very decent, and the documentary "Android in La La Land" is great stuff.

I've been seen seeing him live from the 80s up until present day and he sounds better now than he did then, guys a legend.
Yeah I watched a live performance he did recently, and I like the more prominent guitars, reminds me of Nine Inch Nails in places (though I'm pretty sure Numan as well as the aforementioned Depeche Mode were big influences on Trent Reznor, so the cycle completes in a way.)

Some of his 'mid' career stuff is questionable :) Replicas and Pleasure Principal were groundbreaking. Anything from Sacrifice onwards has been great.

Yeah Replicas and PP are really impressive, haven't listened to his newer stuff asides from the latest.

The recent stuff is definitely more guitar based rather than keyboards. Like you say, there's a definite Nine inch Nails feel to it.
Well he did technically start out in punk, but used keyboards when he discovered them in the studio he was recording in. Similarly to Japan, his sound drastically altered as a result, and look how well it turned out.
