Overseas The Discotek Media Thread (plus AnimEigo)

Master of Martial Hearts is the only thing besides Ex-Arm that I've seen receive a sub-5.0 rating on MAL. Weird choice for a label that only releases a handful of titles per year. I wonder if it was foisted on them in a licensing bundle.

New licence announcement from Discotek.

Patlabor Early Days OVA
Rose of Versailles Complete Collection
Lupin the 3rd: TV Specials Collection 2(Dragon of Doom, Pursuit of Harimaos Treasure, The Secret of Twilight Gemini, Island of Assassins, Tokyo Crisis)
The Discotek releases never have Region B support right? Would love that Palabor release over here....

I wish I could recommend tracking down the MVM release or the Sentai Ultimate set but both are long oop and go for obscene prices online.

Alternatively you could get a region free player, cheapest option would probably be a pc blu ray drive and to use Leawo.

I use an Xbox Series X as my player (with a remote control and not the game controller, im not a mad man), which I know should handle regions fine but by keeping my collection Region B I'm less tempted to splurge! I've similarly pined over Den-Noh Coil (which is B compatible) and the Discotek Lovely Complex release.
I nearly bought a £60 of the Sentai OVA release last week but held off. Never seen anyone listing the MVM edition Someone wants £100 on eBay and CeX have never even seen one so I imagine it was a small print run.

@Hanners I know you cannot comment (or commit) but... you know...if 'someone' who had dealt with this franchise recently wanted to keep going....

The problem with PC Blu-ray drives is, they are almost extinct now, so are also going for crazy scalper prices. I bought an LG external slim Blu-ray drive and two Asus 5.25 internal Blu-ray drives 3-4 months ago for a little over $100 each, and neither of those brands exist online anymore. Pioneers are gone too. Any stragglers found from major brands are going for 2-3 times their original prices now.

I want to buy a couple spare Blu-ray players too very soon, as they are starting to decline quickly, too.

Still external ASUS writers available on Amazon UK for just over £100 atm, the cheap Chinese random stuff is about £50.

Round 3 of Discotek's latest Deep Dive additions are now available this month.

As a reminder, the titles are in SRP but in return you do get points on the MediaOCD Store ($1 for every 10 points). The previous batch are all still available but I recommend ordering some sooner than later if you're desperate. UK shipping supports pre-paid VAT but there's always Stackry as an option if you plan to consolidate packages from Crunchyroll Store and Sentai Store together with MediaOCD's.

The titles included in Batch 3 are as follows:

MediaOCD have also added three Media Blasters titles to their store as well with Osamu Tezuka's Phoenix The Perfect Collection, Magical Witch Punie Chan and Jungle De Ikou. As a reminder, these releases won't include any slipcases as they tend to be exclusive to Media Blasters' store itself but I believe most of the older titles never came with one.

AnimEigo have also a couple major updates.

Zhang Yimou's Red Sorghum (红高粱) is now available to pre-order via the Whole Grain Pictures label. This classic Mandarin film is coming to Blu-ray for the first time in the west and will also include a slipcase for the MediaOCD Store. The title is available to order for the UK & Ireland (which does suggest they acquired UK rights, so I don't expect a UK version to appear via the usual distributors).

Extras include a video essay by historian Jonathan Clements, an interview with Chinese film historian Tony Rayns, and a trailer. The film is scheduled for release on 14th July 2026 for SRP $29.95.

Alien Nine has been delayed due to some minor tweaks they needed to do with the upscale process. The series is now scheduled for release on 9th June instead of 12th May.

Macross II: Lovers Again has had a couple updates over the past few months. Robert Woodhead has noted their Visual Encyclopaedia (aka, the "artbook") and all of the Blu-ray packaging have been approved for production, and a final Blu-ray check disc is currently under review. Based on his responses to folks in the latest update, they still need to review the 4K Ultra HD check discs as well so if things go to plan, we should finally see copies ship out around June (as he also mentioned books having a 1-2 month production timeframe). As a recap, Macross II: Lovers Again is a 4K Ultra HD & Blu-ray combo pack since the OVAs received a 4K restoration as well.

And other than that, MediaOCD Store is also going to revamp their website from using Wix to a new self-hosted platform. The distributor has grown over the past year and part of that is also due to the recent success of Whitest Kids U Know's MARS film (which was co-written by Weapons director Zach Cregger and the late Trevor Moore), so this change is going to help make sure the store can manage more titles over time.
