The All Purpose Mobile Suit Gundam Thread

Consider this a potential release - I'll look into it anyway over the next week or two :). Knew it was coming for a bit though for the USA, was still deciding here tho - do you guys want it on Anime Legends?

Assuming a release like every other 50 episode series, 2 x 25 episodes at £24.99 RRP each?

I would definately buy Turn on an AL release. (Would look good next to my R1 AL Z Gundam sets). Speaking of which can we have the Z movies in a single boxset please?

Regarding some of the other series people mentioned I would love to see Victory & X released here.

There's a whole load of Gundam I think most fans would buy on Anime Legends. Turn-A is a definite yes for me.

A Gundam thread on anime website being the least biased cross-section.

I'll have to buy to encourage more of this kind of thing, though if Beez want to declare a potential release now to channel my money to them I'm all ears :)

Personally, I'd rather have all the long-running Gundam shows released in the same style as the very nice Gundam Wing box; MSG, Zeta and ZZ especially. But that's just me and my wallet-masochism.

At this point, I'm thinking more of what could possibly equate to more sales. Would that be a big, expensive deluxe box? or a couple of reasonably priced collections of around 25 episodes each?

I know what I'd go for.

But you can sell less of a more expensive product and make the same profit or loss as you would selling more units cheaply. I don't think one releasing strategy is necessarily any less risky than the other.

Personally, I like the idea of releasing things at a premium to begin with (but also at a higher quality - very important that) then bringing out a budget version further down the road. That way those prepared to spend more for higher quality (and to get things first) can do so, and those more concerned with price and less with quality don't miss out either (but have to wait). Seems fair to me.

That's a fair point, Ayase.

I kinda think it depends on what you define as 'quality' though. I mean, to be honest, I've never been the sort of otaku who was into having things like T-shirts, fancy boxes, or soundtrack CDs.

All I really want at the end of the day is the show itself, represented as well as can be. I'm just grateful to own them, so that I can watch and re-watch them whenever I want.

So, in that regard, it's kinda common sense for me to be wanting affordable stuff over anything more ostentatious.

Bugger me,next thing you know someone will license LOGH. Andrew knows he hasmy money but having just moved now appreciate getting as much as possible into a small space, boxed extra's are nice but most of the stuff (other than music CD's) has done nothing than take up space.

Looks a bit Escaflowne-ish!
Yoko Kanno does the soundtracks for both, so that's a vague impression I took away from it too. Turn-A Gundam could have done with being as lean as Escaflowne though. Plenty of dead episodes.

I watched gundum 00 today to see what I though, after deciding I may possibly take sparrows gundams off his hands.
It was interesting and cleared my mind of all doubts I had of gundams.
Though I think I need to watch more before I decide how much I like it.

Also I was listening to the gundam 00 op on youtube, and I read the video description, "In memory of Lockon" which was good to know 1 episode into the show.

To be honest I don't think knowing takes away from it, it's still a fantastic sequence. Rockon forever in our hearts Lockon

Just noticed this thread. Gundam Wing was AWESOME. That is all.
Mainly because I've not seen any of the other Gundam series... But my point still stands.

My smart-alec comment here is: Watch more Gundam. ;)

Seriously - I think Wing is okay, but it meanders a fair bit, and there's something about the whole show that I think feels a bit undercooked. It's a good enough show - just a bit of a task to get through if you're not in the mood for it.

If you thought it was awesome, I'd love to hear what you make of OO, The 08th MS Team, SEED or Zeta. :D

Ah thats not so bad then

Also haro's voice reminds me of alpha from MM:power rangers[/quote]

Haha Yeah I get where you're coming from. Do you go sub or dub for 00? Personally I prefer sub for it.

In which case yes he sounds a LOT like Alpha in the dub. I don't think it's a bad dub, I just can't adjust from the sub. Plus I <3 Keiji Fujiwara as Ali, much as I also love Scott McNeill (Dinobot yay)

Quick question:

I have the Mobile Suit Gundam Movies box set from beez. As I understand it, they're not really three movies at all, but three condensed volumes of the original TV series.

Is the original TV series available without the cuts anywhere? I'm enjoying the volumes I have, but they each go on for sooooo looooong. You can also really can tell certain parts of the story have been truly mangled up.

Recent news from afar may interest you. The 0079 series will be re-released by Bandai in the forseeable future within R1, according to ANN et al.

Presumably they'll put the Japanese voice track on there this time. Though personally, I'm really not a fan of 0079 and neither version is less completely tiresome. The series had so much discardable filler that I've never quite been convinced that the mangled movies were down to adaptation. Tomino simply isn't a good director by any stretch of the imagination.
